P.T. downloaded over 1M times, footage viewed over 30M times

Hideo Kojima took the stage at Sony's pre-Tokyo Game Show conference to announce the success of P.T., the spooky demo teaser for the new Silent Hill he is making with filmmaker Guillermo del Toro.  P.T. has bee...

Dying Light has a sweet slide move

So I still need to actually play Vanquish in full, but that rocket knee slide? Good stuff. Dying Light's slide is not so cool, but with enough forward momentum, you could get a decent slide going.  I am only still ...

The Evil Within rocks some recognizable voice talent in this new trailer photo
The Evil Within rocks some recognizable voice talent in this new trailer
by Brittany Vincent

Ever wanted Watchmen's Jackie Earle Haley to taunt you? Now you can with Haley lending his voice as The Evil Within's main antagonist, Ruvik. But he's not the only recognizable celebrity to have climbed aboard The Evil Within's hype train.

Anson Mount (Cullen Bohannon, Hell on Wheels) takes on his very first voice acting role as lead protagonist Sebastian Castellanos, so you'll be hearing quite a bit from him.

And last but not least, Jennifer Carpenter, whom you likely recognize as Dexter Morgan's foul-mouthed and totally badass sister Debra Morgan, is taking on the role of Juli Kidman, Sebastian's partner (and Junior Detective). You'll be able to play as Juli with content released later on in the game's life cycle, so plan on ponying up if you're a big Carpenter fan.

Interesting choices as far as voice talent goes. Me? I'm just glad that we're looking past Nolan North these days.

The Grate Debate's final puzzle solution for P.T. works consistently

Earlier today we ran a story regarding the solution of P.T.'s final puzzle. After "looping" around the same hallway multiple times and getting to the "end," you must fulfill a certain set of requirements to see the teaser. T...

Is this really the solution to P.T.'s final puzzle? photo
Is this really the solution to P.T.'s final puzzle?
by Brett Makedonski

Hideo Kojima's interactive teaser P.T. has been a hot topic of discussion for the past week and a half. While part of the talk has been centered around the great experience and the reveal of Silent Hills, many have just been trying to clarify what exactly is happening with P.T.'s final puzzle.

There are a lot of different methods circulating as to how exactly players can trigger P.T.'s end sequence. The problem is that none of them are really consistent. This video may have it all figured out, applying reasoning for the steps instead of blindly stabbing in the dark. There may be a few leaps in logic, but at least it all seems plausible -- especially for something that Kojima created.

Atari is rebooting the Alone in the Dark franchise

Horror this, horror that. 2014 is going to be known for the year the horror genre really took off again. Presumably because games like Slender Man, Outlast, and more have made some of the bigger companies realize th...

There's plenty of death in this hour-long The Evil Within video

Based on this hour-long play session of The Evil Within, I'm not expecting to be particularly scared by the game, but I am expecting to die quite a few times. Given its limited checkpoints, the fear of failure and having to ...

Until Dawn has hundreds of endings and thousands of branches photo
Until Dawn has hundreds of endings and thousands of branches
by Dale North

Supermassive Games' Pete Samuels and Will Byles held a behind-closed-doors session during gamescom to give us a better look into upcoming PS4 horror title Until Dawn. During that session they explained how their PS3 Move-only campy teen horror title transformed into a PS4 adult horror, starring top-tier actors and featuring high-end technologies.

Until Dawn is all about player choice, offering thousands of play paths that lead to hundreds of possible endings. A lot of this is tied to one of the game's mechanics called the Butterfly Effect.

Kojima expected that it would take a week to solve the mystery of P.T.

Until Dawn is my kind of horror

I am a little baby when it comes to horror movies. I just can’t. I can’t sit and force myself to stare at a screen that will make me scream and flinch. That’s not fun to me! The opposite is true when it com...

Alien: Isolation is haunting and uncompromisingly scary photo
Alien: Isolation is haunting and uncompromisingly scary
by Alessandro Fillari

Though it was initially seen as "Jaws-in-space," the legacy for Alien is certainly much more pristine than the one with the giant shark. Originally released in 1979, the first Alien would eventually become a much-loved horror film that spawned a major movie franchise. And while the sequels would get more attention and prominence among fans, the original still holds a special place in the hearts of fans.

After the release of some rather disappointing Alien titles, and with the Cameron interpretation of Alien as the de-facto standard for the franchise, the developers at Creative Assembly believed it was about time fans went back to the roots of the series. Just a week before gamescom, Sega invited Destructoid out to get some quality time with Alien: Isolation, and to speak with the game's creative lead, Alistair Hope. During our time, we got to learn just how different horror is when faced off with something out of your league.

The next Silent Hill is coming from Hideo Kojima, Guillermo del Toro photo
The next Silent Hill is coming from Hideo Kojima, Guillermo del Toro
by Jordan Devore

Oh that Hideo Kojima.

During Sony's gamescom 2014 press conference earlier today, there was bizarre, eye-catching announcement for something called "P.T." which was said to be playable immediately for PS4 via PlayStation Network. It was shown so quickly that many of us didn't think much of it. Whoops.

Turns out that P.T. is a playable teaser for the next Silent Hill from, get a load of this, designer Hideo Kojima and director Guillermo del Toro. The game -- which seems to be named Silent Hills, presumably because that's how Kojima rolls -- stars actor Norman Reedus.

The ruse was figured out by Twitch streamer SoapyWarpig, whose playthrough of P.T. can be seen here. Skip to around 1:16 for the unveil or simply take a look at the .gif below. As someone who hasn't been much into the series in recent years, this is one hell of a way to win me back.
