Play Awesomenauts for free this week on Steam

Awesomenauts: Starstorm is one of the few Kickstarters I've backed. It's no secret that I'm a fan of the core game, and I'm hardly the only one on staff, either, but it's something I feel compelled to share. The campaign is s...

Admiral Swiggins officially joins Awesomenauts

[Update: I've since played a few matches with Swiggins, and I have to say, he's incredibly fun. Behind Leon, I think he's currently my second favorite character, as he has a ton of potential, a good amount of variety in his s...

The future of Awesomenauts is looking pretty awesome photo
The future of Awesomenauts is looking pretty awesome

It's common knowledge that it's tough to be an indie studio -- especially if you're running a competitive online multiplayer title. Despite the fact that your game may have across-the-board rave reviews, maintaining a community, constantly developing new content, and figuring out ways to monetize is incredibly hard. Ronimo Games is going through that with Awesomenauts right now.

To help Ronimo stay independent, they've launched a Kickstarter that at the time of this writing is doing quite well, nearly breaking $100,000 in just a few days. But the studio has a lot of work to do starting with the PlayStation 4 version of their game -- a version that's now launching with the console, by the way!

Awesomenauts sure has come a long way in its first year

This past week, Awesomenauts turned one. Looking back, Ronimo has done a tremendous job with continuing to support the title on Windows and Mac. (I feel terrible for folks who only have access to it on consoles.) Despite not...

Yes, please: Awesomenauts is getting another map photo
Yes, please: Awesomenauts is getting another map
by Jordan Devore

As much as I genuinely like playing as the post-release characters in Awesomenauts, what I've been waiting for more than anything is another map. That day isn't here quite yet, but it is happening. Ronimo Games is adding a map which takes place on Leon's homeworld. It'll be playable at PAX East at the Indie Megabooth and is said to be stealth-oriented, with an orb at its center that grants temporary invisibility.

In preparation for an upcoming patch, the team has put together new skins for Coco Nebulon and Raelynn, both of which look great. "Coco McFly" is exactly what it sounds like. I'm sure we'll be seeing that get some use online.

What's more, two new Awesomenauts are being designed in collaboration with the community. A two-stage contest on Facebook has folks coming up with the gameplay design and also the art itself. The winners will eventually have their ideas represented in the game itself.
