PlayStation Plus has a shiny new trailer

If you aren't a member of PlayStation Plus, Sony has released a new trailer to show you the reasons why it's neat. If you are buying a PlayStation 4 on Friday, you should definitely think about signing up for Plus, since you'll need it to play multiplayer, and it gives you some free games.

So you just got a Vita? Here are some recommendations
by Chris Carter

The 3DS had a chance to shine with a recommendations article and now it's the Vita's turn. With the release of Killzone Mercenary and a tidal wave of indie ports on the way, the Vita has quite a few titles under its belt.

What once was a system begging for games now has quite a sizable offering if you include legacy content, and you know what -- the device itself is pretty amazing.

Here are a bunch of things you can put in it.

Resogun is a blast, lets you throw humans photo
Resogun is a blast, lets you throw humans
by Dale North

Housemarque's latest, announced at this week's PlayStation press conference at gamescom, is PS4 title Resogun. Any fan of Super Stardust HD or Super Stardust Delta would be glad to hear that this game is a spiritual successor, though it adds some new ideas and some next-gen shine to the formula.

It's a shooter at heart, reminding of Defender, though it's not as space-y as you're fending off alien invaders in an attempt to save the last humans. Resogun plays cylindrically, with free back-and-forth movement. It's fast, but it's not so fast that you're overwhelmed. The left analog stick controls movement while the right one fires either forward or back. And aside from a few buttons for special attacks, that's all you really need to know to jump in and have fun.

Sony explains why you'll have to pay for online with PS4 photo
Sony explains why you'll have to pay for online with PS4
by Chris Carter

Pretty much the only thing people didn't like about Sony's E3 conference was that tiny little part where they announced that you'd have to pay a subscription fee (PS+) to play games online with the PS4. It was kind of a bombshell for some, but for others, it made sense given the value of PlayStation Plus.

After being asked what went into the decision to charge for online gameplay, Sony explained that online features and services are going to be a "big pillar" of the PS4 experience. They go on to note, "we've already talked about the share button, sharing features, second screens...if we continue to invest into online infrastructures, that costs money. If we continue free service for online multiplayer, from a business standpoint, there's pressure to recover costs. That's when we decided 'let's ask the people who are most active in playing online to share some of the cost so we can invest more.'" It has also been noted that some F2P PS4 games will not require PlayStation Plus, including Planetside 2 and DC Universe Online (the latter of which will feature cross-platform play).

Sony ends with, "$399 is the price point we always wanted to hit. We carefully looked at the potential of the technology we put in the PlayStation 4. We believe that when PS4 comes out it will be the most powerful system inside."

I saw all of this coming, and I'm not really surprised. Sony can't afford to offer 10 more years of free online play with all of the cloud based services they're offering now. Still, as I said earlier PlayStation Plus is a tremendous value, and I'm willing to make that sacrifice to pay for online if Sony can provide a truly solid experience -- if.

Demon's Souls headed to PS Plus Instant Game Collection
by Jordan Devore

Looking ahead at this month's schedule for PlayStation Plus, we're off to a good start with the arrival of Demon's Souls in the Instant Game Collection on Tuesday. If you happen to be a member, there are officially no more excuses to put off at least attempting to play this oft-talked-about title.

For discounts this week, it's The Walking Dead ($10.49 for the full season; $2.99 for individual episodes), various Rainbow Moon bundles (the core game will be down to $7.99), and even more Söldner-X bundles ($3.99 for Final Prototype; $3.19 for Himmelsstürmer). These titles are also going to be discounted for non-Plus members, though not to the same extent.

Later on in April, Plus will get Malicious, Labyrinth Legends, SoulCalibur: Broken Destiny, and Zombie Tycoon 2 as freebies as well.
