Molyneux's latest, Curiosity, has been delayed

E3: Fable: The Journey is not on-rails, kind of photo
E3: Fable: The Journey is not on-rails, kind of
by Brett Zeidler

Lionhead Studios is no stranger to making spin-offs for Fable. The first was an Xbox Live Arcade tie-in with Fable II called Pub Games, which was a collection of mini-games that appeared in the game and would allow you to carry over the gold to your character that you had won in Pub Games. Next up was last month's Fable Heroes: a family-friendly entry into the series that didn't exactly impress us.

With Fable: The Journey, Lionhead is crafting their most ambitious Fable yet. Now running on the Unreal Engine, it also happens to be the most beautiful Fable. When Peter Molyneux talked up Fable: The Journey last year, he claimed it was not on-rails. On the contrary, it was quite clear that wasn't exactly the case after what we saw from.

After my hands-on with The Journey this week, it's clear that the game is not on-rails. Well, sort of.

Peter Molyneux and the curious case of the Ł50,000 DLC

Peter Molyneux can't simply make a game; it has to be an experiment. With Fable, it appears that he wanted to see how interaction would work when you were restricted to farting or doing a chicken dance. Maybe there was more t...

The DTOID Show: Bioshock, Mechwarrior, & Kickstarter photo
The DTOID Show: Bioshock, Mechwarrior, & Kickstarter
by Max Scoville

Hey guys! Here we are again!

Today's show, we talk about how Kickstarter is the hottest thing on the web right now, and how Tim Schafer's Double Fine Adventure raised 3.3 million dollars, and how inXile's Wasteland 2 is in the process of being crowd-funded. Bioshock Infinite's got some kickass enemies, including a robotic George Washington, and Mechwarrior Online has BattleMechs running on CryEngine3. For reasons that I cannot figure out, but which make me smile, Double Fine has decided to organize a gamejam based around the brilliant ideas of Peter Molydeux, the fake Peter Molyneux Twitter account.

Finally, we talk about Mass Effect 3 some more. I'm so sick of hearing about this game. Nothing makes me want to go live in the woods and read books than people on the internet getting this upset a video game. That being said, bravo, money has been raised for charity. Apparently BioWare pissed people off so much, they had a fundraiser. What is this I don't even.

Most importantly: WE ARE HAVING A NINJA DRESSUP CONTEST, PLEASE PARTICIPATE FOR FREE GAMES!

Molyneux: Milo was too emotional for the games industry

Remember Milo, the digital child-creature that Peter Molyneux demoed at E3 so long ago? It promised interaction on a level that would make Skynet jealous, but it disappeared after all the hype. Why was it thrown on the scrap ...

Preview: Discovering the emotion of Fable: The Journey photo
Preview: Discovering the emotion of Fable: The Journey
by Wesley Ruscher

If it is one thing the controller cannot do anymore, it’s offer a player “that sense of discovery which we had with the early days of games.” That’s what Peter Molyneux, the visionary behind Fable: The Journey believes, and it’s a big reason why the latest game in his iconic franchise is ditching the dual-analog setup in favor of Microsoft’s Kinect.

It’s an interesting concept. The controller really hasn't evolved in quite some time, and if it’s one thing it has never allowed, it’s that of a real connection to our virtual experience. With this novel thought in my mind, I sat ready to take Lionhead’s latest adventure for a stroll. My marvelous tale ensues.

No melee in Fable: The Journey (because it's on rails)
