MAG getting free DLC next week photo
MAG getting free DLC next week
by Hamza CTZ Aziz

Zipper Interactive announced on the PlayStation Blog that MAG will be receiving its first DLC pack next week, and it's going to be free! The "Trooper Gear Pack" will include flashbang grenades, two new uniforms, and new special edition Light Machine Guns for each PMC.

Zipper will also be throwing a Double XP party on top of the new DLC, which comes out on March 25. The Double XP bonus starts on the day the DLC drops and ends on March 28.

Zipper promises to continue to bring more to MAG in the coming months, and it's pretty awesome that the first pack is going for free. Good show, Zipper!

New MAG commercial: It only does 256 players

I really dig the "It Only Does..." PlayStation 3 commercials. Sony had some duds before this campaign, but this series has been pretty funny. And they actually show game footage, which know, nice. Maybe I'm a bit bi...

Contest: MAG beta extended, win your way in (Update) photo
Contest: MAG beta extended, win your way in (Update)
by Nick Chester

First thing's first -- Zipper Interactive has announced that its beta program for the massive online PlayStation 3 exclusive shooter MAG has been extended. It was originally scheduled to end on November 23, but that's so last week.

"MAG Beta 4 program" will continue this week, and the next phase -- "MAG Beta 4.5" -- will re-launch on November 24 with another small download. What that means exactly is unclear, but if you've already pre-ordered MAG with GameStop, you should have received a beta key that will work throughout the beta. (You should still be able to pre-order online and get your working code; Zipper says in-store keys will "no longer support" the beta.")

Want a key? Well, we have 100 keys to give away today. To win, simply comment and tell us which of the game's private military factions you'll join when you sign up and why. You can get more info on the factions from our earlier preview of the game.

We'll choose our 100 favorite answers (starting at around 5:00pm Eastern), and message you your key using Destructoid's new private messaging system (which is also in beta). Good luck!

[Update: The contest is closed, and I'm currently choosing winners and then private messaging the winners. Keep an eye out; I'll update when all codes have been sent out. Since I'm doing this by hand and I'm one man, please give me time to organize and send out codes. Thanks!]

Being a face in the crowd with the PS3's 256-player MAG

MAG, the PlayStation 3-exclusive first-person shooter that boasts 256-player multiplayer, is set to release on January 26, 2010. So to get people geared up and ready, Sony invited us to a one-on-one training session, complete with some hands-on play time with the beta.

If you haven't been keeping up with every little detail (and you aren't already in the beta), then feel free to read on past the jump to get the lowdown on how the game functions, and some of the impressions that I got from my limited time with it.

MAG trailer uses community announcers

If there is one thing that MAG is going to rely on it's its community. With 258 people actually able to play at a time you're actually going to have to have 258 people to play a full blown game at a time. On top of that there...

MAG has an official release date photo
MAG has an official release date
by Matthew Razak

We all probably felt a little disappointed when the predictable news came around that MAG would be pushed back into 2010. The chance to get online in the biggest multiplayer battles ever moved even further away? Boo to that, I say. However, now we at least have a date to mark on our calendars as the Playstation.Blog has revealed that MAG will be landing on January 26, 2010. That's not that far after Christmas so we should all have some money left over.

If you're really impatient you can go over to PS.Blog and try to get some hands-on time with the game at PAX on Friday, which would probably be one of those great stories you can tell everyone when you're drinking with Mr. Destructoid later that night. PS.Blog is also going to be offering up a few special events to their readers so keeping tuned in would be a good idea if you think that Jan. 26 is just too far away.
