Review: LittleBigPlanet Karting photo
Review: LittleBigPlanet Karting
by Jim Sterling

When LittleBigPlanet Karting was announced, the first thing I felt was pity. Pity for ModNation Racers, the build-everything karting title that Sony presented under the same "Play Create Share" banner as Media Molecule's critically acclaimed series. An LBP kart racer renders ModNation obsolete.

That said, LBP itself may be deserving of some sympathy, considering it's launched on the same day as Halo 4 and hasn't had a shred of marketing weight put behind it. If you're releasing alongside one of 2012's biggest games, you could at least have had more than a day-of-launch trailer. As it is, many folks have been surprised the game is even out already.

If Sony was looking for a one-two punch that knocked both of its karting properties out of the race, it's done a bang-up job.

Still, neither of them are really worth missing. Easy come, easy go.

LittleBigPlanet Vita breaks street date photo
LittleBigPlanet Vita breaks street date
by Chris Carter

LittleBigPlanet Vita was all set for a September 25th release date, but guess what? That crummy old street date has been broken, which means the release date is "whenever the hell you feel like buying it."

But hold on people, as not everything is broken! Don't expect Sony to break the online "street date" just yet, as online functionality won't be available until tomorrow.

It looks like you'll have to play with yourself in the meantime. Given how great this game is however, that shouldn't be too hard.

[Thanks, Phil!]

Review: LittleBigPlanet PS Vita photo
Review: LittleBigPlanet PS Vita
by Jim Sterling

The original LittleBigPlanet earned a lot of its praise through sheer charm alone. The cute presentation and unique creativity afforded to the player won it a lot of acclaim, despite the fact that, to be fair, the actual game part was never spectacular. In my mind, LittleBigPlanet 2 confirmed this -- still fun, and a good way to waste time, but its poorer qualities were exposed by a sequel's inevitable lack of surprise.

I had feared that a third attempt at getting into LittleBigPlanet would be the proverbial final straw and turn me off the series altogether. I was gladly wrong. I also learned something very important.

LittleBigPlanet is finally at home on the PlayStation Vita. This is where it belongs.

Final Fantasy VII gets remade using LittleBigPlanet 2

It's obvious now that Square Enix will never, ever remake Final Fantasy VII for fear of... I dunno... diluting the property or some stupid nonsense. In any case, the company is way too busy working on that "Fabula Nova Cryst...

Preview: LittleBigPlanet (PlayStation Vita)

LittleBigPlanet got off to a modest start in 2008, but it wasn't a runaway hit. For my wife and I, it was the entire reason we bought a PlayStation 3, but for others, it was simply a floaty, uninspired platformer.

I think on the surface, the franchise didn't seem all that special, but underneath the veneer of a simple cute mascot, it was an incredibly deep, challenging, and rewarding experience.

In order to unlock everything the game had to offer, you had to find every single last hidden item, and beat every level with zero deaths, which was an extremely fun challenge I think many games are still lacking. I remember spending many an hour designing fairly complex levels, including a complete rework of Crash Man's stage from Mega Man 2.

Four years later, and the series is still going strong, with a full PS3 sequel, a PSP spinoff, and now, a Vita iteration.
