Borderlands 2's final Headhunter DLC goes to the beach

Whew. After releasing in the second half of 2012, Borderlands 2 has had an exceptionally long tail of downloadable content support, keeping the role-playing shooter relevant for many for more than a year and a half. After rel...

NEW PS Vita coming this spring to North America photo
NEW PS Vita coming this spring to North America
by Dale North

The new PlayStation Vita will be launched this spring, coming in a Borderlands 2 bundle. This was confirmed today at a PlayStation media event in Santa Monica. It will include the game with six DLC packs (Captain Scarlett and Her Pirate’s Booty, Mr. Torgue’s Campaign of Carnage, Psycho Character Class, Mechromancer Character Class, Ultimate Vault Hunter Upgrade Pack 1 and the Collector’s Edition Pack.), an 8GB PS Vita memory card, and will all retail for $199.99.

For this new model, battery life is now 4-6 hours for gaming, and a new LCD screen replaces the current version's OLED one. Its shape has changed a bit -- it's more rounded and a bit more portable.

It's the same one we saw released in Japan last year, and Europe earlier this year.

Yay?

Review: Borderlands 2: How Marcus Saved Mercenary Day photo
Review: Borderlands 2: How Marcus Saved Mercenary Day
by Darren Nakamura

Borderlands 2 has had quite the long tail of content for a noncompetitive first-person shooter. Since its release a bit over a year ago, it has seen two additional characters, four story DLC packs, two level cap increases, widespread release of previously retailer-exclusive content, dozens of new cosmetic customization options, and most recently, the series of holiday-themed Headhunter missions.

Like T.K. Baha's Bloody Harvest and The Horrible Hunger of the Ravenous Wattle Gobbler, How Marcus Saved Mercenary Day takes place in a single new area and consists of only a couple of missions. Where Bloody Harvest was centered around Halloween and Wattle Gobbler focused on Thanksgiving, Mercenary Day features a Christmas theme. With it comes a very Borderlands take on snowmen, carols, and the spirit of the season.

Telltale, Gearbox team up for Tales from the Borderlands

For the first reveal of this year's VGX, a Telltale logo showed up on a vending machine, with very Telltale-esque cel-shading. Not so Telltale was the music, which was clearly a Borderlands guitar riff. Yep, Telltale is maki...

Review: Borderlands 2: Ravenous Wattle Gobbler
by Darren Nakamura

Last month, the first Headhunter DLC pack for Borderlands 2 released, celebrating Halloween with T.K. Baha's Bloody Harvest. The Headhunter series aims to be quick and inexpensive, offering a couple of holiday-themed missions for just a few dollars apiece.

Next in the series is the Thanksgiving flavored content, with a title as stuffed as our stomachs will be in two days: The Horrible Hunger of the Ravenous Wattle Gobbler. While it follows the same general format as the previous entry, Wattle Gobbler has a bit more of the signature Borderlands charm, which benefits it in the end.

Review: Borderlands 2: T.K. Baha's Bloody Harvest photo
Review: Borderlands 2: T.K. Baha's Bloody Harvest
by Darren Nakamura

Borderlands 2's huge array of downloadable content has inarguably had its ups and downs. At its worst, we have seen simple cosmetic additions like new outfit colors and heads (which seem doubly silly considering the game's predominantly first-person perspective). At its best, we've experienced a truly heartfelt story inside of a substantial campaign addition, with a plethora of new enemies to fight in Tiny Tina's Assault on Dragon Keep.

The new Headhunter series of DLC aims to be something in between those two extremes. Rather than providing a substantial set of side story missions across several locales, the Headhunter content intends to be more bite-sized, with a price to match. T.K. Baha's Bloody Harvest is Halloween-themed, so perhaps "fun-sized" is the more apt adjective to use, and while shooting things in the face while numbers fly out is as fun as it has ever been, there really isn't much new to find here.

Jimquisition: Reasons To Pass On Season Passes
by Jim Sterling

You were promised an episode on season passes, in the wake of Jimquisition complaining about downloadable content. There is a season for all things, and that season has come to pass.

Here is a nice little bit of shouting on why season passes are ridiculous, and why it would behoove you to pass up on the bloody things.

It's here! It's finally here! Pokemon X and Y is out this week for the 3DS and it's pretty much going to be the only thing anyone talks about leading up to the next-gen consoles. Oh, Beyond: Two Souls is also out this week. It has emotions and stuff. You like emotions, right?

Other biggies this week are two repacked re-releases: Borderlands 2 and Dishonored Game of the Year Editions. Oh, videogame industry. No wonder gamers love Steam sales so much.
