I was immediately excited when Sony showed off Rime at its gamescom press conference. That trailer has finally been released in its full glory. I'm still not sure why they pulled out to so many indecipherable wide shots duri...
You saw our top ten games of gamescom. For the sake of comparison, let's take a look at the official Gamescom Awards 2013. There is some overlap, of course, but there are also some surprises in here.
Destiny took home best Pl...
I tried my best to flank the enemy and shoot out his treads while trying out World of Tanks for Xbox 360 at gamescom. That helps. Lesson learned. That was after a previous unsuccessful roll-out where I died so quickly that I kind of hoped no one was watching.
Everyone was watching.
I got some quick hands-on time with both the Xbox 360 and iPad versions of World of Tanks in a gamescom meeting with Wargaming. The insanely popular tank MMO is now making its way to other platforms, with the Xbox 360 currently in beta in North America. The European side of this beta launches this week, too. Asia will follow, as will CIS. Wargaming says that getting the servers set up for all of this has not been easy.
Some may remember when it was discovered that FIFA 13 on the PlayStation Vita was a reskin of FIFA Soccer, the first soccer game to be released on the Vita. Well guess what?! FIFA 14 is going to be another reskin too.
gamescom is a huge show for both the press and consumers alike. It's at least four times the size of E3, and you'll be breathless by the time you've explored every inch of the show floor. There's just so much to see and do!
We've been bringing you non-stop coverage of gamescom from Cologne, Germany all week long. After checking out everything we could, we've picked our top ten games of gamescom 2013:
No particular order here, just ten exceptional games we were super impressed with. Of course there were a ton of great games, and it's always hard to narrow down games like this. Check out all our coverage from gamescom 2013 to see what else we liked.
It doesn't seem to matter what Rare is working on these days. (For the record, currently, it's Kinect Sports Rivals.) If it's not one of the studio's beloved properties, there's going to be pushback from fans who have been wa...
In this interview video, Dark Souls II director Yui Tanimura discusses the core of the series, trying to innovate while staying true to what made the last game so successful from a design perspective, and challenges faced du...
Jetlag can be a total bitch, especially when traveling overseas. Combine that with having to hear David Cage talk and it's totally understandable that the head of Sony's Worldwide Studios, Shuhei Yoshida, would fall asleep during a panel.
Sweet dreams, Mr. Yoshida.
[Update: Microsoft has released a statement addressing exactly how microtransactions will work in Ryse.
“The progression system in ‘Ryse: Son of Rome’s’ cooperative multiplayer experience offers player...
Levolution. It sounds like someone with a lisp trying to say revolution. Well anyway, that's the marketing buzzword Electronic Arts is pushing like crazy, and while the name is stupid the tech behind it looks cool.
I still have a hard time believing Destiny is actually possible given the scope of the entire project. You're going to have multiple worlds to explore, so many guns to play with, tons of enemies to kill, and it all looks gor...
Housemarque's latest, announced at this week's PlayStation press conference at gamescom, is PS4 title Resogun. Any fan of Super Stardust HD or Super Stardust Delta would be glad to hear that this game is a spiritual successor, though it adds some new ideas and some next-gen shine to the formula.
It's a shooter at heart, reminding of Defender, though it's not as space-y as you're fending off alien invaders in an attempt to save the last humans. Resogun plays cylindrically, with free back-and-forth movement. It's fast, but it's not so fast that you're overwhelmed. The left analog stick controls movement while the right one fires either forward or back. And aside from a few buttons for special attacks, that's all you really need to know to jump in and have fun.
Between appointments I popped in to play Hotline Miami 2 again. And it's still awesome.
After finishing (losing) I turned around to find a list of forbidden interview questions written on the wall behind me. The banned questi...
PlayStation Vita title Murasaki Baby looked to be pretty dark and twisted in its debut trailer at Sony's gamescom press conference earlier this week. Now that I've played it, I'd say that it isn't quite as dark as it first came off to be. There's actually a cute side to it.
The cuteness starts with the premise: the player uses the Vita's touchscreen to hold the hand of a baby carrying a balloon. You're to guide her on her journey to bring this balloon to her mother, as she is lost. This baby is kind of cute in an upside down head with huge eyes kind of way. Scary cute, if you will.
