These Batman: Arkham Knight screenshots are eye candy

The two big things to know about Batman: Arkham Knight are that you can drive the Batmobile, and there's a new villain -- the titular Arkham Knight -- created by Rocksteady, Geoff Johns, and Jim Lee. If you need more to go on...

Arkham Knight has the right playground for Batman's new toys photo
Arkham Knight has the right playground for Batman's new toys
by Brett Makedonski

Rocksteady Studios has found itself in a somewhat precarious position with Arkham Knight. The team's two previous installments in the series are so universally revered that it begs the question "What can it do to live up to, and surpass, Arkham Asylum and Arkham City?" Rocksteady's opted to take the path of increasing the scope of everything and changing the formulaic approach to some of the series' conventions. It remains to be seen how well it'll work.

Arkham Knight is the first in the "Rocksteady Trilogy" (this term kept coming up, presumably to distance themselves from Arkham Origins) to give Batman free rein of Gotham City. The plot device driving this iteration is that Scarecrow has threatened to release a fear toxin so the entirety of the city has been evacuated. Well, except for all the thugs, criminals, and super villains that refuse to leave. They'll be Batman's punching bags en route to finding Scarecrow.

If this version of Gotham City sounds like semi-familiar territory, that's because it kind of is. The cynically analytical might say this walled-off playground full of baddies smacks of Arkham City with skyscrapers. The optimist might suggest that this added verticality is a welcomed progression for the series.

Musclecat Showdown is a game where you strike beefy cat poses photo
Musclecat Showdown is a game where you strike beefy cat poses
by Hamza CTZ Aziz

Along with Push Me Pull You, I got to finally see what Musclecat Showdown was all about. And. It. Was. Glorious.

You and another muscle bound cat have to strike your owners requested poses, and the person that's able to do them the best wins. The only controls are with the analog sticks on a controller, with each stick representing your cats glorious arms. That's it, that's the entire concept. Super simple, and super fun. Essentially think Pokemon, but instead of fighting, you're posing.

The main draw here is the lovely visual style, which was created by Adventure Time and Bee and PuppyCat artist Natasha Allegri. Here's some snippets of gameplay for you to get a better sense of what the game is all about.

PvZ: Garden Warfare is getting substantial new DLC and it's free photo
PvZ: Garden Warfare is getting substantial new DLC and it's free
by Jordan Devore

I've been pleasantly surprised by the way Electronic Arts and PopCap have handled Plants vs. Zombies: Garden Warfare. First, the game itself is loads of fun -- the foundation is solid. But more than that, they don't have paid microtransactions yet even though they absolutely could have had those ready for day one, and the game's upcoming DLC is not only free, it's worthwhile.

Detailed today ahead of its March 18, 2014 release on Xbox One and Xbox 360, the Garden Variety Pack offers a new map, Chomp Town, and the eight-on-eight Gnome Bomb mode in which both plants and zombies try to destroy the other team's base.

There are also 24 new character ability upgrades -- three for each of the eight primary classes -- providing some additional (and much-needed) variety. Examples listed include a Super Goop attack for the Chomper which cements zombies, an Ultra Tackle for the All-Star, and a Solar Flare Beam for the way-too-happy Sunflower. Also be on the lookout for Pirate Zombies in the existing Sharkbite Shores and Port Scallywag maps.
