We've got 5,000 codes for the Swordsman closed beta!
by Mr Andy Dixon

Our friends at Perfect World have hooked us up with 5,000 keys for the closed beta of their new martial arts MMO Swordsman! And in addition to the closed beta, these codes also unlock a Dtoid and E3-exclusive fluffy little lamb that you can hold in your hand and also speaks to you. You know, just what you always think about when you think about Destructoid.

The closed beta ends later this week, so get on it! Thankfully, the unlockables will still be there for you once the game goes into open beta, so you won't be without your fluffy little lamb for long.

To claim your code, click here! (Huge members can snag their reserved codes right here!) Then, just follow the instructions below to redeem. Have fun!

Keep your eyes on GOG.com to get some free games photo
Keep your eyes on GOG.com to get some free games
by Alasdair Duncan

GOG.com's summer sale format is something that almost single handily justifies tabbed web browsers. Whilst its range of flash deals have been worth keeping an eye on, this 24-hour Adrenaline Rush promotion will be offering free games over the next 19 hours.

If you're reading this now, you've already missed getting Omerta: City of Gangsters for free but there's still plenty of big discounts happening.

There's Hotline Miami, Carmageddon II, and Lily Looking Through for just $1.99 whilst more recent titles like Kentucky Route Zero and Broken Sword 5 are half price at $12.49. As always, just keep refreshing and checking back every 30 minutes to check what's new.

Mutant Mudds Deluxe: Tomorrow's PlayStation Plus freebie
by Steven Hansen

PlayStation Plus is ending the month with a smaller showing this week, but Mutant Mudds Deluxe actually just came to Vita about six months ago, so it's relatively new, which is nice.

There are also some sales that seem slight against Steam sales.

Contest: Win your choice of a PS4, Xbox One or Wii U! photo
Contest: Win your choice of a PS4, Xbox One or Wii U!
by Mr Andy Dixon

Update: Contest ends in a week. You could be our amazing weiner, dog! Good luck.

Destructoid is giving away a free next-gen console! That's right: one lucky Dtoider will get his or her choice of a free Xbox One (minus Kinect), PlayStation 4, or Wii U (deluxe bundle), and all you have to do to enter is push a couple buttons!

To compete, just push the big blue Enter button below and follow the instructions to earn entries. It's that simple! Of course, our Huge members don't need to do a thing; your membership already grants you automatic entry in full. (You can always enter manually to up your odds, though!) Oh, and one more thing: this contest is open to anyone in the world! (Cash value will be rewarded to international winner. For full contest rules, click here.)

Update: As many of you noticed, votes are verified LockerDome, which (amongst other things) makes sure cheaters aren't creating 9999 Dtoid accounts to win. The app wants permissions to use your social media to post (if you allow) but please note they're a legit company not super interested in spying on all your cat photos. You can revoke access, etc, like any other app that uses social connect.

Good luck!

We've got 10,000 codes for the Defense Grid 2 beta! (UPDATE)
by Mr Andy Dixon

Update 2: Codes all gone! If you're a Huge member and didn't get yours, email me and I'll send you one. Everyone else, better luck next time!

Update: Damn, those codes went FAST! Luckily, we've just received another batch of 10,000! This time around, 9,000 are open to the public, and 1,000 are reserved just for our Huge members. If you missed out, think about becoming a subscriber now!

Original story: Our good friends at Hidden Path Entertainment have hooked us up with a truckload of beta keys for their upcoming sci-fi tower defense game Defense Grid 2 to hand out to the Dtoid community!

Following on the success of the 2008 original, DG2 looks to expand on the original in many ways, including user-created content, an updated pathing system, and some very pretty visuals. To try the beta out for yourself, just head on over to our code giveaways page and click the button! (You must be signed in to your Destructoid account first, obviously.) Then, code in hand, just load up Steam and activate the code there. Easy peasy!

Have fun!

Magrunner: Dark Pulse is free on GOG.com today photo
Magrunner: Dark Pulse is free on GOG.com today
by Jordan Devore

Have a GOG.com account? You should, if for no other reason than to hit up promotions like this. For 24 hours, the digital distributor is offering first-person puzzler Magrunner: Dark Pulse for free. It's a decent enough game that you might as well add it to your library.

This deal is part of the site's summer sale special, which is also running some tempting bundles today -- the Bullfrog lineup for $9.79, the original Thief trilogy for $5.97, and the Wing Commander series for $9.52, to name a few. GOG.com is doing the hourly flash sale thing, too, so check back in. (Or don't! The Steam sale will be here before we know it -- pace yourself.)

VVVVVV's user-created levels and editor are now free photo
VVVVVV's user-created levels and editor are now free
by Jordan Devore

Designer Terry Cavanagh has release a free version of VVVVVV that features player-created levels and the full level editor. It's called VVVVVVV: Make and Play Edition, and it can be downloaded as of today for Windows, Mac, and Linux.

Version 2.2 of the full game is out now, fixing "a bunch of long standing bugs (for example, player level warp lines) and makes the 2.1 changes official (like player maps, colored text in player levels, editor direct mode, etc)." Steam Achievements have been implemented as well, so if you've put in the effort already, expect to unlock a bunch of those at once after updating.

That was far from the only VVVVVV news this week, as Cavanagh also released the game for iOS, Android, and Ouya, in addition to a related minigame called Super Gravitron for mobile. That's free, too! And there's a metal cover album for that special someone in your life.

Gunpoint developer releases 'free game about swinging around elegantly' photo
Gunpoint developer releases 'free game about swinging around elegantly'
by Jordan Devore

Tom Francis, the guy behind Gunpoint, has a treat for us today. He's got a new game out on Steam called Floating Point and it's free, no strings attached. Using your mouse, you swing through randomly generated levels while listening to peaceful jams from Form & Shape.

Reminds me a bit of PixelJunk Eden, which I adore. In a blog post, Francis explained his reasoning behind not charging money for the game: "When Gunpoint came out, and did well, I thanked those who bought it for putting me in a position where I didn't have to actively chase money with everything I do. In return, I promised to 'make new things for you!'"

Floating Point was initially created for the Ludum Dare game jam, but he continued to flesh it out, "and worked on it for as long as I felt it needed work. It was a fantastic experience, I’m really proud of the final thing, and I could never have done that if I was struggling to feed myself."

[Thanks, reader named Tom who is not Tom Francis]

Download Sniper Elite V2 for free on Steam photo
Download Sniper Elite V2 for free on Steam
by Jordan Devore

Rebellion is letting Steam users download its World War II shooter Sniper Elite V2 for free and yes, you get to keep it "forever." The 24-hour promotion is good until tomorrow at 10:00am Pacific.

Sniper Elite V2 is that game in which you can shoot people and watch an x-ray replay of bones shattering, hearts popping, and eyes exploding. In fact, I just learned via YouTube tutorial how to land a nut shot on Hitler -- because that's a thing you're allowed to do.

This is a game I'd likely never buy, but download for free? Sure.

PSA: Go check your Wii U Deluxe account for potential free cash! photo
PSA: Go check your Wii U Deluxe account for potential free cash!
by Chris Carter

Do you want more internet money? Well I have a solution for you, buddeh!

Earlier today I was talking to a friend about buying the Wii U version of 1001 Spikes, and he mentioned that he was going to pay for it with his Deluxe Money. In one fell swoop, I realized what he was talking about, and what I had been ignoring for over a year. The Wii U Deluxe promotion! I had $20 just sitting there.

For those who aren't aware, Nintendo is running a promotion for Wii U Deluxe models where you get a portion of your digital purchases back as "points," which can be redeemed for eShop cash once you earn enough for a $5 increment. All you have to do is log into the website here and see if you're eligible to redeem your rewards.

I nonchalantly put the reminder on Twitter yesterday, and found tons of people messaging me that they had redeemed upwards of $30 or more. Check it out! The promotion is scheduled to run until mid-2015.

Contest: Win a Logitech G502 Proteus Core gaming mouse!
by Mr Andy Dixon

Our friends at Logitech have hooked us up with an awesome set of PC gaming gear to give away to one lucky Dtoider! Up for grabs is the G502 Proteus Core gaming mouse, which features 11 programmable buttons, in-game DPI adjustment, and a dual-mode, hyper-fast scroll wheel. Oh, and it lights up really awesome blue. Because you'll no doubt need something to put your mouse on, they've also thrown in two different pads to try out: the G440 solid surface pad, and the G240 soft cloth pad. What a sweet bundle! (I'm using the G502 on a G440 myself and couldn't be happier!)

To enter, just leave a comment in this thread! Limit one entry per person, and you have until this Sunday, June 8 at 11:59pm Pacific to enter. Contest is open to anyone with a US shipping address.

Good luck! And don't forget, our Huge members get automatic entry into all contests (as well as a bunch of other awesome perks). Not bad for $3 a month!

Xbox One's free Games with Gold are now available to download photo
Xbox One's free Games with Gold are now available to download
by Brett Makedonski

We've known for a little while now that Xbox One was finally going to be included in Microsoft's continuing Games with Gold program beginning in the month of June. We just didn't know when in June that was going to take effect. Apparently, the answer is June 3.

Right now, both Max: The Curse of Brotherhood and Halo: Spartan Assault are free for Xbox Live Gold subscribers. They can be downloaded via the console or on Xbox.com. Remember though: Regular Games with Gold rules don't apply to Xbox One titles. You have to maintain an active Gold subscription to be able to keep them.

Friendly reminder: Dark Souls is free on Games with Gold first of June photo
Friendly reminder: Dark Souls is free on Games with Gold first of June
by Brett Makedonski

It's about that time of month when Microsoft clears its throat and lets everyone know what the upcoming titles in the Games with Gold program are going to be. But, it's already done that earlier in May, and Jordan already told you about it. But, that feels like a million years ago, and chances are you got lost gazing into Jordan's dreamy avatar, so here's a quick reminder.

On June 1, Xbox Live Gold subscribers will be able to download Dark Souls for free. June 16 ends the Souls opportunity, and sees Charlie Murder and Super Street Fighter IV: Arcade Edition take over. Sometime this month, Max: The Curse of Brotherhood and Halo: Spartan Assault will be free on Xbox One, but those dates aren't known yet.

Now go back to staring at Jordan.

Battlefield 3 is free to download on Origin photo
Battlefield 3 is free to download on Origin
by Jordan Devore

Electronic Arts' On the House program for Origin lets users download free games for a limited time and keep them. It is obviously a way to get the service installed on more computers, and it's EA so some people are going to complain about that, but I'm a fan of the promotion.

Past titles have included Dead Space and Plants vs. Zombies. Right now, through June 3, it's Battlefield 3. Go crash some jets, for me. (So I'm not the only one embarrassing himself.)
