Man at Arms forges Auron's Katana from Final Fantasy X

Man at Arms is a pretty badass video series that crafts fictional weapons in real life, and this time they're tackling Auron's Katana from Final Fantasy X. You'll be able to see the entire process in the 10 minute video, which condenses the smithing process. Even if you aren't a fan of the series it's still worth watching just for educational purposes.

UPDATE: Due to me having car trouble and not being able to update this till now, the contest has been arbitrarily and retroactively extended to 1:08 PM EST. Any entries before this time now qualify for prizes. Isn't this great?

Hey there, boys and girls! To commemorate the great deals on Steam this weekend, we've thrown together a spontaneous contest. Now you can compete to the death for fame and glory!

All you have to do to enter is create the funniest fan art that you can muster and submit it in the comments. The one that makes me laugh the hardest wins! We'll also be having second place and a special "Sad Trombone" prize.

Here's what's at stake:

  • First Place:Tomb Raider Collection (or a combo of games of equal value)
  • Runner-Up: Your selection of one Final Fantasy title
  • Saddest Little Trombone: Daikatana or Murdered: Soul Suspect

The contest runs from 2:30am EST Sunday until 12am EST Monday, so get those pictures in.

Final Fantasy XIV will get its DirectX 11 upgrade for the expansion photo
Final Fantasy XIV will get its DirectX 11 upgrade for the expansion
by Chris Carter

Ever since the launch of Final Fantasy XIV, the development team has mused on the idea of providing a DirectX 11 update for the PC edition, which would drastically improve its visual quality. While the PS4 version has near-perfect parity, the PC would be the clear superior platform with this improvement.

Finally we now have a release window for DX 11 -- it will arrive this spring/summer when the Heavensward expansion hits. The update will mostly fix the finer aspects of the graphical style (like water), and it won't be an all across the board fix. See the gallery for a better idea of what to expect.

Review: Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn (Patch 2.5) photo
Review: Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn (Patch 2.5)
by Chris Carter

Final Fantasy XIV has come a long way. Although there wasn't any real endgame content to speak of when A Realm Reborn launched in its 2.0 incarnation, Square Enix worked hard to deliver in 2.1, and has continued to deliver in every major patch since.

With each update came new "Primal" (read: Summon) fights, all of which had an Extreme version to test the mettle of its playerbase. Now, the developer is gearing up for an expansion later this year, and the latest 2.5 patch has provided a ton of mid-level content, with no Extreme or proper hardcore raid in sight.

That makes this patch rather unique, and players of all skill levels will enjoy it.
