Oculus Rift + stationary bike + Kinect = Paperboy

Globacore has combined a stationary bike, the Oculus Rift, and the Kinect to create PaperDude VR, an homage to Paperboy. The video here shows off the game in action, and holy crap do I want this. It's probably not a good idea to throw actual newspapers when you play the game though.

Free fitness tracker Kinect PlayFit hits Xbox Live today photo
Free fitness tracker Kinect PlayFit hits Xbox Live today
by Jordan Devore

The rumored Kinect PlayFit application for Xbox 360 that tracks calories burned across multiple games has released for free today in the United States. Further regions will get access to the download later this week, according to Xbox Live's Larry Hryb.

I have a feeling this app won't be particularly relevant for many of you, but similar to Holly, I tend to use my Kinect more for cardio than anything else. So, neat, I guess? For what it's worth, Kinect PlayFit even has Achievements. I've yet to see the full list of supported games, but Dance Central 2 and Your Shape: Fitness Evolved 2012 were both specifically mentioned.

E3: Nintendo announces Wii Fit U

Reggie Fils-Aime announced Wii Fit U at Nintendo's E3 press conference today. The best part is he introduced it by acknowledging the classic Reggie meme saying, "Five years ago, my body was ready." Amazing. It wasn't clear if...

Exercise games tend to forget that they are supposed to be just that: Games. On the other hand, Your Shape: Fitness Evolved 2012 promises to strike the balance between burning calories and being entertaining at the same time.

E3: Your Shape: Fitness Evolved 2012 coming in 2011

I'm currently watching the Ubisoft E3 press conference, and ever since Mr Caffine showed up, it's turned into some sort of mind bending, nightmarish twilight zone. I'm not sure where I am or what I'm doing. That's why I can't...

Hands-on: UFC Personal Trainer for Kinect photo
Hands-on: UFC Personal Trainer for Kinect
by Tara Long

I’m not even going to pretend like I watch UFC. There’s just something about the act of punching a guy’s teeth in and then kneeing him in the face until he chokes on his own blood that leaves me feeling a little uneasy. That said, it’s a well loved display of showmanship and I can’t discount the entertainment it provides to millions of people across the world.

UFC Personal Trainer is the newest Kinect fitness game that takes a look behind the flash and spectacle of ultimate fighting to the demanding and strenuous MMA training all UFC fighters go through. The result is a hardcore fitness game that its creators think will be beneficial to just about everyone. The downside? You probably won’t learn how to cagefight.

ExerBeat is a fun exercise game for the Wii photo
ExerBeat is a fun exercise game for the Wii
by Hamza CTZ Aziz

After the Kinect came out, I never thought I'd go back to the Wii for my exercise needs until I tried out ExerBeat. The Wii exclusive is fun and the onscreen prompts showing you exactly how to do the moves you need to do are very helpful. I only tried out the Karate section where I had to do actual karate moves with my arms. I was sweating within the first two-minutes of the routine!

There are 155 exercises broken into eight different types of workouts. You'll be able to routines in Hip hop, Latin Dance, Aerobics, Boxercising, Karate, Karate Forms, Yoga/Pilates and Stretching. ExerBeat is up to two-players and will support MotionPlus and the Balance Board. Expect to pickup the game this Spring.
