The first-person shooter business knows its audience. Year after year there are military shooters that are stuck in the "newer" era of shooters, offering up realistic experiences and killstreaks galore, which gamers eat up annually.

Lost is the art of the arena or twitch shooter, which are usually just relegated to downloadable titles or the PC platform, and scant see the light of day as a true wide console release. Enter Titanfall -- a game that seeks to shake up the genre with elements of twitch shooters of old, and of course, giant hulking robots.

Titanfall doesn't really break the mold or offer up many things we haven't seen before -- but that doesn't mean it isn't fun to play.

Impressions: Plants vs. Zombies: Garden Warfare (Xbox 360)

It's as if we slipped into some alternate dimension. The long-awaited Plants vs. Zombies 2 went straight to mobile, passing over PC fans, and while it wasn't bad -- not at all -- I sure lost interest. Instead, it's PopCap's t...

Dragon Age: Inquisition makes great use of Frostbite 3

The Frostbite 3 engine shows its stuff in this new trailer for Dragon Age: Inquisition covering the game's stunning landscapes. Those leafless tress, that shimmering water -- I'm impressed. This kind of visual fidelity is al...

Titanfall Arcade claims '8-bit is better with a Titan'

Hamza happened upon Titanfall Arcade, an official browser-based mashup of Titanfall and classic Atari games. Wondering why anyone would create such a thing, I couldn't help myself. I clicked. Asteroids is playable now, with M...

Grab your pilot and watch the Titanfall launch trailer

Titanfall is just one week from release, which also means we're nearing hype critical mass. Here is today's reminder that Titanfall will provide a much-needed feather in Microsoft's cap when the game releases for Windows and Xbox One on March 11, a gameplay trailer full of robots, action and drama.

The robot designs are by far my favorite aspect of this game. They're rough, functional machines built solely to serve a military application. This isn't a sleek, futurist aesthetic, but the kind of hulking battle bots made by people who recognize little benefit in prettying up devastation. And yet, they're beautiful all the same because you have to acknowledge the effort in bringing that to life visually is much more demanding than smooth lines and contours.

Peggle 2 ricochets onto Xbox 360 on May 7

Though early adoption of new consoles is something I tend to avoid these days, there is one game that has made me jealous of Xbox One users: Peggle 2. Soon enough, the ball-bouncing lesson in geometry and rainbows will not be...

In a blog post about the current state of Battlefield 4's multiplayer, DICE wrote that fixing netcode issues with the game is "one of the top priorities." I'd sure hope so -- few things are more irritating in competitive game...

Review: Plants vs. Zombies: Garden Warfare photo
Review: Plants vs. Zombies: Garden Warfare
by Chris Carter

Plants vs. Zombies has been on one wild ride since PopCap was acquired by Electronic Arts. What started off as a grassroots (hah) series with humble beginnings on the PC has become an exclusive-heavy franchise -- with Plants vs. Zombies 2 originally launching on iOS, and Garden Warfare launching on Xbox platforms and the PC.

In many ways EA has hurt the overall image of PopCap, but there are some benefits to being owned by a major publisher. Most notably, an in-house engine ripe for the taking, and the resources to create one of the most oddball third-person shooters ever made. While it's not everything it could be, Garden Warfare is most definitely a successful experiment.
