EA is back with another Origin Game Time promotion following that one for Titanfall. Those of you on PC can claim a week of free access to Battlefield 4 -- just add the game to your Origin library before August 14. The clock doesn't start until you launch the title, at which point you'll then have one full week (168 hours) to play as much or as little as you'd like.
This offer includes full access to the single-player campaign (don't feel bad about skipping it) and multiplayer, and any progress you make will be retained should you choose to buy Battlefield 4 afterward. Pretty good way to get your fill without committing.
Tempted to log back in after a long absence. Maybe I'll stand a chance now.
This is definitely something to check out for folks who are into Star Citizen and want to revisit Chris Roberts' past work. It's unquestionably dated -- the game originally released in 1994 and features full-motion video cut scenes -- but not so dated that it can be enjoyed today.
I mean, if nothing else, you'll get a kick out of seeing live-action Mark Hamill and Malcom McDowell.
More than 20 Capcom games are 50 to 75 percent off in this week's Xbox Live sale and, better yet, you don't even need to be a Gold subscriber to take advantage of the deals.
Here are the sale prices:
Asura's Wrath - $9.99
As you flip the calendar from July's impossibly cute picture of a puppy to August's impossibly cute picture of a puppy, you should be reminded that there's a new stable of free games to download on Xbox One and Xbox 360 for Xbox Live Gold members. Maybe you should just start writing "Games with Gold" on the calendar for the first of every month so you don't have to rely on the Internet people.
The offerings right now are Crimson Dragon and Strike Suit Zero on Xbox One, and Motocross Madness on Xbox 360. The Xbox One titles are both available through the end of the month, but Motocross Madness is only free through August 15. That's when Dishonored-- the real highlight of August -- takes over until September rolls around.
Supergiant is hosting a weekend sale for Transistor on Steam. At 33 percent off, you can grab the action-RPG for $13.39 and its soundtrack for $6.69 until August 4.
There's also a special something for those of us who already...
If you ordered Mario Kart 8 and somehow neglected to register your copy for one of the free Wii U games Nintendo is giving out, this is the final day to do so.
Just redeem the code printed on the insert using Club Nintendo, or link your Club Nintendo account to your Wii U before buying Mario Kart 8 if you're getting the title digitally.
The choices are, again, Pikmin 3, The Legend of Zelda: Wind Waker HD, New Super Mario Bros. U, and Wii Party U in North America. Europe is offering those, plus Game & Wario, Sonic Lost World, Nintendo Land, The Wonderful 101, Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate, and Mario & Sonic at the Sochi 2014 Olympic Winter Games. (What'd you get, by the way?)
Most of you who were going to register Mario Kart 8 probably did so already, so here's a potentially more useful nudge: don't forget to check your status in the Deluxe Digital Promotion if you're a Wii U Deluxe Set owner. You might just have a $5 eShop code in there.
Night Dive Studios brought the likes of Putt-Putt, Freddi Fish, Pajama Sam, and Spy Fox to Steam earlier this year, and here they are again in this flash sale from Humble Bundle.
If you want to go on a nostalgia trip and come...
It feels silly to tell you about a game that's going to be free months from now, but maybe, just this once, it'll prevent someone from buying said game right before the promotion begins. With that in mind, Payday: The Heist will be free for 24 hours on October 18, 2014.
This offer is connected to Overkill Software's Crimefest, a celebration of the Payday franchise's third anniversary happening in October. The studio has a goal of 1.5 million community member sign-ups on the Payday 2 Steam group, and there are milestones with rewards. The group now has over 1,050,000 members, hence the free Payday offer.
Even if you're done with the original game, I'd encourage Payday 2 players to take a look at that link -- the other rewards will be relevant to your interests. Looks like we'll get them all, too.
Microsoft has come out with its August lineup of free games for Xbox Live Gold members and the highlight here is unquestionably Arkane Studios' stealth title Dishonored. You'll want to clear hard drive space for it in a couple weeks. But, that's not the only one worth trying.
The first Games with Gold selections -- Crimson Dragon and Strike Suit Zeroon Xbox One, and Motorcross Madness on Xbox 360 -- will be free beginning this Friday, August 1. Then, it's Dishonored's turn from August 16 - 31. We'll have a reminder post when the time comes.
One of the recurring complaints for Games with Gold has been its insistence on featuring stuff that many of us own and have owned for years. With Crimson Dragon and Strike Suit Zero next month, at least we're getting something I imagine not a ton of folks have played yet.
Digital distributor GOG.com has launched its Linux support earlier than expected and, as of today, there are more than 50 games that feature Linux versions on the site. A number of these titles are also on sale, because you c...
