Civ Rev and Dungeon Defenders are March's Games with Gold photo
Civ Rev and Dungeon Defenders are March's Games with Gold
by Brett Makedonski

Well, we're certainly at the point where we know exactly what to expect from Microsoft's monthly Games with Gold promotion. If you're new to the process, it typically features two games that are generally considered to be good, but a bit too old. That doesn't really change in March.

This month's offerings are Sid Meier's Civilization Revolution and Dungeon Defenders -- two games worth checking out if you hadn't gotten to them before. As is the case with these things, Civilization Revolution is free for Gold subscribers through March 16, at which point Dungeon Defenders takes over and is free for the remainder of the month.

Burnout Paradise 'Legendary Cars Collection' free today photo
Burnout Paradise 'Legendary Cars Collection' free today
by Jordan Devore

Criterion has made the Legendary Cars Collection DLC for Burnout Paradise free today on Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 (in North America) in memory of actor, writer, and director Harold Ramis.

The pack contains four vehicles all of which are references to famous cars in pop culture. There's the Jansen P12 88 Special (Back to the Future), the Hunter Cavalry Bootlegger (The Dukes of Hazzard), the Carson GT Nighthawk (Knight Rider), and last but not least, the Hunter Manhattan Spirit (Ghostbusters). Worth taking the time to download, in other words.

"Harold Ramis was a comedy genius," said Criterion. "He inspired us." A true legend indeed.

Free ModNation Racers: Road Trip on PS Plus this week

We all have those launch titles we enjoyed well enough at the time but have since abandoned, possibly forever. I don't see my PilotWings Resort cartridge ever winding up back in my 3DS, but, that's okay -- it was there for me...

Download GameMaker Studio Standard Edition for free photo
Download GameMaker Studio Standard Edition for free
by Jordan Devore

Normally, the Standard Edition for GameMaker Studio costs $49.99 but for a limited time, it's available for free. After downloading, just register an email address and you'll be sent a key.

Also through March 2, 2014, the upgrade to GameMaker Professional Edition is $35, down from the usual going rate of $99.99 -- "simply enter your Standard license key when checking out," according to YoYoGames. Of course, it's the modules that start to add up, but this free version is still one of those offers where there's really no reason not to grab it while you can.

When I think of GameMaker success stories, I think of Derek Yu (Spelunky), Tom Francis (Gunpoint), and Jonatan Söderström (Hotline Miami) -- these three rocked it. In time, you can too.

Dungeon Keeper is free on GOG.com photo
Dungeon Keeper is free on GOG.com
by Jordan Devore

In light of the negative reactions to the new Dungeon Keeper for mobile, this is too perfect. GOG.com is offering the original game for free in a 48-hour promotion.

Unless you already own the Bullfrog classic, there's no reason to miss out on this deal. It seems many people are taking the site up on the offer -- requesting your copy currently gives the message "You'll get your game soon! Minion, due to high demand, we will tell you when your free copy of Dungeon Keeper is ready via email in a little bit."

GOG.com, you can be my valentine any time. Also, Dungeon Keeper 2 is on sale for $1.49.

[Thanks, Eduardo]

Games with Gold: Dead Island, Toy Soldiers: Cold War photo
Games with Gold: Dead Island, Toy Soldiers: Cold War
by Jordan Devore

Microsoft's Games with Gold promotion is becoming a parody of itself. In February, Xbox Live Gold subscribers are once again getting two free titles, one that is the first installment of a popular franchise, and another that's an enjoyable but perhaps under-appreciated Xbox Live Arcade title. Those are Dead Island and Toy Soldiers: Cold War, respectively.

As ever, the first free game -- in this case, Dead Island -- will become free for Gold members on the first of the month. So, tomorrow. You'll then have until February 16 to download it at which point game number two, Cold War, goes free for the rest of the month.

You really should make a note to download that second one, though -- you get to shoot at tanks as an offbrand Rambo toy. It's pretty special. I also much preferred its setting over the first Toy Soldiers, so if you resisted it for similar reasons, consider getting the sequel.
