Watch the 'no joke' Nintendo Direct here for 3DS, Wii U news

Today's Nintendo Direct is no joke. That is to say that it is not an April Fools' joke, but, more idiomatically, it is no joke -- 48 dang minutes. That's 48 minutes devoted to the most important stats, scores, standings, and...

YouTube bans Yandere Simulator anime panty shots, commenters are pissed

The developer of Yandere Simulator made a recent unfortunate discovery. YouTube removed one of his videos for violating its policy on nudity and sexual content -- a claim that he seemingly vehemently disagrees with. The...

Ico showed Bloodborne's Hidetaka Miyazaki the 'possibilities of the medium'

Simon Parkin got a rare interview with From Software president, Demon's Souls and Bloodborne creator Hidetaka Miyazaki and it is fascinating stuff, charting Miyazaki's dramatic career change at age 29 (and equally dramatic 80...

Now batting, Herb Guy

I'm still playing MLB 15 The Show for our review. Instead of going to my PS3, uploading my Road to the Show shortstop to the Cloud, then importing it into my PS4, I stayed put (they're in different places) and made a new pit...

Free advice from smart, funny, handsome game developers

The Game Developers Conference is a tremendous resource for creators. I wish I could attend every year, and not just as an excuse to hang out with Steven. GDC is insightful, energizing and, this is key, not physically and men...

DeNA wants its Nintendo partnership to yield games that make $25M per month

Fresh off its revealed partnership with Nintendo to bring the revered Japanese publisher's properties to smart devices, DeNA isn't holding back with its expectations. It won't settle for anything less than a giant player base...

Nevermind brings biofeedback horror to Steam Early Access

Truth be told, I mostly wanted to cover Nevermind, a horror adventure game in which you delve into the subconscious minds of psychological trauma victims, because of this image. Look away! With a premise so strongly rooted in...

There's a mysterious button on reddit, and OH GOD, SHOULD I PRESS IT?

Yeah, this isn't about videogames. I know that, and I don't care. Sometimes there are more pressing matters in life than videogames. A mystery button showed up on reddit. We don't know what function it serves, hence the ...

Dark Dreams Don't Die with Deadly Premonition

Deadly Premonition's Francis York Morgan and Dark Dreams Don't Die's David Young, together under one roof? Now there's a conversation I want to overhear. Someone's been reading my mind. Designer Swery65 tweeted this image for...

A Serious Sam voice pack for The Talos Principle is weird and awesome

The Talos Principle is a puzzler that requires deep and philosophical thought. Serious Sam is, well, it's pretty much the exact opposite. That's why it's so excellent that the latter will be doing voicework for the ...

Sunset Overdrive gets a permanent price drop, trades freaks for robots

There's a lot of activity in Sunset City despite the fact that the town is a shell of what it once was. Those over-caffeinated freaks flood the streets, and there's one guy bouncing about like he's the one with 15 too many R...

You'd think Driveclub would want to stay away from the word 'buggy'

Dark Souls II: Scholar of the First Sin's enhancements are minor, but I ended up beating it again photo
Dark Souls II: Scholar of the First Sin's enhancements are minor, but I ended up beating it again
by Chris Carter

Love 'em or hate 'em, this is the generation of remakes. It seems as if remasters of the previous generation pop up more frequently than actual new games, but if said remasters actually end up funding new games rather than the coffers of executives, that can be a good thing.

The newest remake comes by way of From Software in the form of Dark Souls II: Scholar of the First Sin for a variety of different platforms. Unsurprisingly, it holds up as the core experience is fantastic, but it's really hard to suggest buying Scholar unless you haven't played the original in any shape or form.

Club Nintendo posts Platinum and Gold rewards photo
Club Nintendo posts Platinum and Gold rewards
by Chris Carter

Club Nintendo is coming to a close, and the ability to register any Coins ended yesterday, but there's one last swan song for the service -- the Platinum and Gold rewards. Today, Nintendo posted said rewards on their site, and they're all-digital yet again.

Platinum members can net Animal Crossing: New Leaf, Mario Golf: World Tour, Mario Kart 7, Mario Party: Island Tour, New Super Mario Bros.2, Yoshi's New Island, Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze, NES Remix 2, Punch-Out!!, Pushmo World, and Ultimate NES Remix.

Gold members (as well as Platinum if you want to dip below your reward grade) have a more retro-flavored selection, with Crashmo, Freakyforms, Pushmo, Super Mario Bros. 3, Super Mario Bros. Deluxe, The Legend of Zelda: Oracle of Ages or Seasons, The Mysterious Murasame Castle, Advance Wars, The Legend of Zelda, Mario & Luigi Superstar Saga, Metroid Fusion, The Lost Levels, Super Mario Kart, WarioWare, Inc, or Yoshi's Island: Super Mario Advance 3.

Of course the site is getting hit pretty hard, but you'll have some time to redeem them. Confused as to what to get? I linked all of our reviews and pertinent coverage for the non-retro games above. For the Platinum level I can suggest New Leaf, New Super Mario Bros 2, (especially if you have a spouse or friend who also wants to pick it up for multiplayer or the generally sweet DLC), and Tropical Freeze.
