Steam's running a free weekend for Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare multiplayer photo
Steam's running a free weekend for Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare multiplayer
by Jordan Devore

To jump straight to the not-so-fun part: it's a 43.5GB download for Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare, and the promo only covers multiplayer. Also, it lasts until Sunday, February 22 at 1:00pm Pacific.

So you can't swoop in, oggle digital Spacey, and clear the campaign like I was planning to do.

I spent too long trying to figure out that instead of searching for a "play for free" button on the game's Steam page, I should have been looking for Advanced Warfare in my library, uninstalled, all along. Yup, there it is. If you're not seeing the title in your list, try updating the Steam client.

I didn't know I needed Robot Roller-Derby Disco Dodgeball in my life

I never got much into my high school's favorite rainy-day activity, dodgeball, but it was fun to half participate in, half watch. Our gym teacher would roll out carts full of fluffy, foamy, definitely-not-rubber balls and ab...

Space shooter Captain Forever returns with weird animals and a bubblegum mutant little brother

Oh, wow, Captain Forever -- that brings me back. The last person to cover it on Destructoid was Anthony Burch. (He so would.) It's a wonderful game about destroying spaceships and stealing their parts to cobble together a su...

Stylish endless snowboarder Alto's Adventure now on iPhone and iPad

It's rare that I cover mobile games here but I couldn't let Alto's Adventure slide by me. This is pegged as an "endless snowboarding odyssey" with a one-button trick system and 180 goals to best. Other things worth noting be...

Combat looks fun as ever in Dragon's Dogma Online

There may not be publicly-disclosed plans to bring Dragon's Dogma Online to the West, but you can't stop me from watching this trailer, Capcom. Not even your corporate wolves can. (Yes, yes, I know they hunt in packs, Pawn. Shut up about it already.)

Flex those muscles, Machamp

This is vaguely the same footage of Pokkén Tournament we've seen over the past couple weeks, but it's a direct capture of the game, so what the hell. Good recap of the current roster, though do note that the voice over and text are in Japanese. Long way to go before this'll get localized. What's going on with Pikachu (starting at 1:25)? That expression is Kirby-in-the-USA angry.

Grow Home update brings a new side quest, tons of bug fixes

Thank goodness Ubisoft Reflections' little robot adventure turned out well. That could've been such a letdown. Reviewing Grow Home for Destructoid, Ben Davis said he "got more than enough enjoyment out of exploring the world...

STARWHAL brings neon space narwhals to PS3, PS4 next week

When I last wrote about STARWHAL, it still had the subtitle "Just the Tip." That's since been jettisoned. The floppy local multiplayer game about narwhals in space has made it on to Steam proper, and it's hitting up PS3 and ...

If this is what a 'rhythm violence' game looks like, I'm all about them

While watching this trailer for THUMPER, a self-described rhythm violence game from current Harmonix artist Brian Gibson and former lead programmer Marc Flury, I didn't want to blink. I also let out a confused "what?" follow...

Square Enix is back for another Humble Bundle

As a "half-baked concoction full of lofty ideas that don't quite mesh well together topped with a fedora," Murdered: Soul Suspect seemed like the kind of game I'd only get around to trying because of a bundle. It's in the Squ...

This demo for Strafe didn't make my head explode

I liked the look of Strafe, a 1996-style first-person shooter. As of today, I like how it plays, too. In the final hours of the game's Kickstarter run, a PC/Mac demo has come out for backers and non-backers alike. Can it help...

Before we can dive into the future of Gex, you have to know what Square Enix Collective is. In short, it's a curated platform for developers to pitch games and receive feedback from both the public and Square Enix before crow...

Rumor has it all Xbox Ones will be dev kits this year

Xbox One's video editor adds green-screen effects and more in big update

What the hell?! Captain Toad has a spin attack!

Have you ever pushed through an annoying sequence without realizing that you were in fact "playing it wrong" and failing to grasp a concept or mechanic? I am guilty of this, but I'm struggling to think of an example newer tha...
