Review: Tengami photo
Review: Tengami
by Patrick Hancock

Tengami has been out on iOS devices for quite some time but has now finally made its debut on Wii U. I think it's great that the Wii U has the perfect setup for iOS games to make a pretty seamless transition thanks to the GamePad. I already love the GamePad for the unique gameplay potential it brings, so this is an extra bonus!

Tengami is a particular game for a particular type of enjoyment. Sometimes you might just need to relax a bit after murdering hundreds or solving awful murder mysteries and just...slide some paper to one of the most relaxing soundtracks you'll come across!

Super Smash Bros. is the most fun I've had fighting online photo
Super Smash Bros. is the most fun I've had fighting online
by Patrick Hancock

I love fighting games. Well, I love pretty much all competitive games, but fighting games are some of the most satisfying. Pulling off combos (or kombos), discovering new "tech," and watching the metagame develop are all super exciting! I've played and enjoyed plenty online: Super Street Fighter IV, BlazBlue, Tatsunoko vs. Capcom, Divekick, Skullgirls, and even Smash Bros. Brawl.

But none of them have matched the enjoyment I've had in my short time playing Smash Bros. for 3DS online. Allow me to explain.

PC Port Report: Dragon Age: Inquisition

The third installment in the Dragon Age franchise is finally here. If you're like me, you are cautiously optimistic with this one after playing Dragon Age II. I'm more of a tactical player, and felt that I was left in th...

Just the other day I was curious as to what Team Fortress 2 would do for Halloween this year. In fact, the TF2 event is one of the reasons why Halloween is my favorite holiday! Well the update, detailed here, h...

First else Heart.Break() trailer reminds me it exists

Everyone remembers else Heart.Break(), right? Of course you do, because it was on my "Top 30 indies to look out for in 2013" list! There was very little information on the game at that point, and apparently I thought it woul...

THEY CHANGED THE DOTA 2 MAP

A new Dota 2 update hit today, and THEY CHANGED EVERYTHING. Two runes. New rune. THE MAP IS DIFFERENT. Reworked Heroes. Chen can take over Ancients. Something happened to Riki, I'm not sure what exactly? THE MAP IS DIFFERENT. Did I mention that they changed the map and added a rune?

The final four duke it out today at Red Bull Battlegrounds

Yesterday was some of the most intense StarCraft II play that I have ever seen. First of all, if you missed it, you should watch the recording on Red Bull's site. Secondly, the rest of this post does contain spoiler...

The Red Bull Battlegrounds StarCraft II grand finals are live!

Man, it feels pretty good to talk about StarCraft II esports again. I've been way more focused on Dota 2 recently and it's nice to go back to what helped get me into the scene. Anyway, the grand finals for the Red B...

Review: Divinity: Original Sin photo
Review: Divinity: Original Sin
by Patrick Hancock

Remember the first "western RPG" that really made an impression on you? Maybe it was Baldur's Gate, maybe it was Planescape: Torment, or maybe it was Dragon Age: Origins. Regardless, you love that game. It might have flaws, it might not appeal to everyone, but you freaking love it.

Divinity: Original Sin will be that game for many people. This will be the RPG that sticks with them forever. 20 years down the road they'll turn to their friend and say "Remember Divinity? Man, they just don't make RPGs like that anymore!" The game fits in very well with what we consider to be the classics, and if you do have those fond memories, Original Sin is bound to imprint some more.

Review: Professor Layton vs Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney photo
Review: Professor Layton vs Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney
by Patrick Hancock

You got chocolate in my peanut butter! You got peanut butter in my chocolate!

Reese's Peanut Butter Cups are great. Personally, my favorite part is the edge, as long as you still get a little bit of peanut butter along with it. It is sort of annoying though when you peel off the wrapper and it takes a good chunk of chocolate with it, though. If you don't like peanut butter OR chocolate, I can't imagine that you'd want to indulge in a Reese's. If you don't dislike either one though, you easily understand why Reese's is some of the best candy ever.

So anyway, Professor Layton vs Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney...

Video tips on how to be a better Dota 2 player photo
Video tips on how to be a better Dota 2 player
by Patrick Hancock

Believe it or not, in all my time spent in Dota 2, I've never played a single solo matchmaking game. I've played plenty of team games, but the anxiety that comes with playing alone with strangers gets to me while playing Dota 2. Well, there's a first time for everything!

Now, the Dota 2 community, along with many others, gets a lot of flak for being "toxic," and sometimes rightfully so. However! In my new "benchwarMMR" video series there will be no anger or blame towards my fellow teammates. My goal is to learn as much as possible from these matches and let everybody in on the lessons I take away.

So join me on an educational journey through the world of competitive Dota 2. And please leave any feedback you have!

PS - MMR stands for Matchmaking Rating. In other words, a number given to a player to "rank" how good they are relative to other players.

The Testament of the White Cypress is out now and free photo
The Testament of the White Cypress is out now and free
by Patrick Hancock

David O'Toole, developer of 2x0ng, has just released his newest game, The Testament of the White Cypress. Inspired by games like Ultima and Zork, Cypress follows a monk named Geoffrey as he explores a strange and dangerous world while getting caught up in something much bigger, which maybe includes some time travel? Cypress is a one man show, as David O'Toole did everything. The watercolor art, original soundtrack, writing, and the programming are 100% David which makes this game a labor of love through and through.

The game is a blast to explore and a great way to enjoy an afternoon. David considers this to be episode 1 of a "three episode thing," and if people show interest, more episodes will come. So give it a go! Make sure you read everything, especially the tutorial in the beginning. You won't get an objectives screen blatantly telling you what to do, so be sure to pick up on the hints from the various writings you encounter.

Oh, and if you enjoy it, don't forget to give it a vote on Steam Greenlight!

How to correctly play Crypt of the NecroDancer photo
How to correctly play Crypt of the NecroDancer
by Patrick Hancock

I've been playing Crypt of the NecroDancer, and now I fancy myself a pretty amazing player. The game hits Steam's Early Access program in just two days, and so I figured I'd impart my wisdom unto any new players who may be out there by making a hawt tipz video.
