Inafune wonders: Could Capcom and Bungie one day team up? photo

Keiji Inafune, who is known best for his involvement with Mega Man, Onimusha, and Dead Rising, recently stopped by Bungie's Seattle-based studio. Ordinarily, this wouldn't be a big deal in and of itself; what made the trip so special was a comment made by the industry veteran.

Bungie is an amazing studio that has made incredible games. So I was always curious about how they made their games in hopes of being up to add some of the flavor into Capcom games.

Also, I wanted to come down to Bungie in order to see just how well our philosophies on game design matched up. If things clicked, I know it would be interesting to collaborate together on a title in the future.

An interesting thought, to say the least. Reiterating his genuine interest in such an idea, Inafune-san says "a Bungie-Capcom collaboration would certainly create something amazing as well ... but I guess we’ll have to see if the next twenty years holds something that special or not."

Do you think this would be a good idea for the two companies to pursue? I'm not sure such a collaboration would automatically net a great project or anything, but I'd personally be curious to see what kind of game could come of it.

Sounds like a good idea to me!
I'm interested to see what they'd come up with as well!

You aren't the only one interested in what could come out of a combined effort.

A good Megaman in 3d? Megaman vs Master Chief? Master Chief: The Blue Days?

I kid. Of course it would be an original IP...right?

Halo: Lost Planet

The pirate factions chance upon a derelict vessel containing a crazed AI and a cryo-sleep super soldier that could turn the tide for the winning faction. Meanwhile ,the Akrid are mutating as strange circular super station looms in the atmosphere.

Better vehicles, better multiplayer, Co-Op akrid fighting with replay and plasma grenades and swords.

This fight is far from finished...

On my list of people in the video game industry I would love to meet and have a discussion with (with them understanding me), Infafune would be in my top three with Uematsu and Miamoto.

Coming from a guy with his little blue child's face tattooed permanently on his shoulder (in all its 8-bit glory), I'm all for it. Especially if it involves Mega Man - I think doing up a new Mega Man in 3D with Bungie handling 1/2 the workload and Capcom performs quality control - would end in untold amounts of awesome.

Seriously. Think 3D Dot Game Heroes with Mega Man 2. Give me a new Bubble Man stage in 3D. God, please, make that dream come true - and let the Minibosses do the soundtrack. Total nerd boner.

Hmm...a survival horror Halo spin-off featuring a weak citizen (as opposed to the strong characters of old) trying to survive an invasion on a ship? Maybe a competitor to Dead Space.

If I recall Master Chief got himself in plenty situations which would've scared the bejeebus out of a weak character. Especially with the dark neon lit corridors. Neon is scary.

Dear gawd no, I wouldn't want to change who makes Lost planet. That's one franchise i would like them to do alone since they're getting better with the second one.

Two developers that both make very high quality games probably doing a collaboration? This will end very well.

That sounds amazing. The makers of Halo and Dead Rising making a game together? Somebody give me a reason why that WOULDN'T be awesome. Obviously it would be a new IP, seeing that Halo is owned by MS and Capcom (I would imagine) is happy with the quality of Dead Rising and Lost Planet, so why collaborate on one of those? I think a new IP would definitely be the way to go.

I think two very talented developers coming together and learning from one another can never be a bad thing. And if they collaborated, well, that's just a tasty bonus. MAKE IT HAPPEN.

A true collaboration could be great, or interesting at the very least. I hope if Capcom & Bungie do do something together, it's more than the cameos that Tecmo & Bungie did a few years back.
