In its uncut glory, GTAIV is about as long as a monster RPG photo

It seems that not a single day goes by without some new GTAIV information finding its way to our inbox, and the latest news from the guys over at videogamer has it that the game will take you about 100 hours to complete -- give or take a few bitch slaps that could distract you along the way. That's according to what  an unnamed Rockstar "spokesperson"  told them during a recent interview:

"If you're not in a rush and you answer the phone when it rings it'll take about 100 hours to complete. It's harder to distinguish between main and side missions - there are loads of both. But there are more main missions than side missions. It's not as clear cut as it used to be because of the phone."

Not sure if I'm keen on the idea of answering the phone every couple of minutes (think they included prank calls and telemarketers?), but this isn't the 1980's any more, and beepers are so yesterday's tech. But that's not the only good news to come down the pipeline, as the European gaming site Cynamite.de has word from Take-Two that the game isn't going to arrive in multiple flavors. Looks like the same uncut version will be found throughout the lands -- foreign, as well as domestic. Can I hear an Amen?

With all this supposed gameplay at our disposal on day one, I have to wonder when we'll even have the time to think about downloadable content, let alone, play any other games that hover around that release date. It's becoming abundantly clear why EA is in such a hurry to buy out Take-Two. GTAIV is about to take over our lives -- if the ratings boards don't rape it first.

[Thanks, Jonathan!]

Good lord, 100 hours?! I hope this time that the storyline branches out, so I don't get stuck on the same fucking mission in every GTA that makes me give up on said story.

it keeps getting awesomeR.

that sounds like a long time to complete this though. I usually get bored after about 15 hours with a game.

100 hours of play-time sounds awesome, but if you have to answer a cell phone as often as you had to answer Otis' damn calls in Dead Rising, I'm going to fucking throw a controller.

I play games to get away from my cell phone for a short amount of time...I don't want to have to stop somewhere in a game to pick up a virtual phone call every fucking 2 minutes and listen to some jerk-off spout orders.

Sounds about right. It took me longer to finish San Andreas than it did to finish Oblivion.

And this is why the DLC that Microsoft has aint going to amount to a hill of beans. There's already more than enough there!!

I'd say 30 hours minimum, if that's a reliable message, and around if you screw around in the city like many of us do.

You can spend 100 hours on pretty much any open world game if it's enjoyable enough. But the storyline? I doubt any developer would actually put 100 hours worth of story in their game, knowing the attention span of gamers goes something like:

*drive drive drive "Gonna do this mission... oh look what's that over there? Let's go kill it!*

*50 hours later*

"What was I doing?"

I've probably spent at least 200 hours on San Andreas doing random shit, so this is good news to me.

Halo 3 is actually 50 hours of gameplay, if you pick up and drain every single weapon, walk on every square inch of terrain, do 230 donuts in each Warthog, kill every single enemy and Marine in the game, and stare at the screen for the remaining 30 hours.

It's true. Read it on CNET.

I preordered the collector's edition a week ago, and I'm very happy I did. I'm not the type to spend extra monies on collector editions, but for you GTAIV baby, I'll do it. Anything ;)

Sweet Jeebus this is going to be so fresh. I put in roughly 90 hours of San Andreas on the PS2 and I'm up to about 45 on the Xbox version. GTA III and Vice City also had their fun, so I'm all for ending all relationships in order to enjoy this game.

And I don't think I've ever liked someone longer than 100 hours.

If this is true I reeeeeeeeeeally hope MS doesn't release Too Human the week after this comes out. I wanna devote a lot of time to both, but I hafta give props to GTA first, since it'll be out sooner. Shit.

Good news all around.

This is fantastic news, I'm not a big fan of needlessly long RPGs but for GTA games longer is generally better!

Bad news for my friends and family; this game will consume me. I always play GTA games much longer than it takes to run through the missions.

I still frekin play san andreas at least once a week to just cruise and land the lear jet on the pier running over 5 or 6 pedestrians in the process.

I haven't been this excited over a game since Oblivion.

Hopefully this is actually true. I mean, Mass Effect, a proper RPG, took me 24hrs first go, and that's doing almost all side-quests.

100 hours great...

I'm just 45 hours into my first run through Mass Effect and I've only just arrived at Virmire :-)

( allready scored the Completionist achievement though, so that means I finished the majority of all subquests :-) )

It's good to hear that the game will be as long as GTA SA, if not longer. I ended up playing for around 100 hours before I stopped playing. I might actually end up playing Dead Rising for longer - murderizing zombies just never seems to get old.
Hopefully the multi player will be awesome, loads of people running round, shooting stuff and robbing cars = WIN
