Importing FTW: Bayonetta PS3 is region-free, in English photo

If you're anything like Jim, you can't wait for Bayonetta to come out. Well, guess what? You don't have to. Siliconera has confirmed that the Japanese PS3 version, at least, is not only region-free, but presented completely in English.

I can't say I blame you if you own both consoles and decide you'd still rather wait for the US 360 version, but waiting is exactly what you'll be doing. For a long time. Of course, there does still exist the possibility that the 360 version will also be region-free, but knowing Microsoft, I wouldn't hold my breath.

Still, if you're one of those PS3-only types and really can't wait, this one is available tomorrow, and the entire game is in English. The voices, menus, all the in-game text, everything. Moonspeak-free. If the 360 version isn't an option for you, I'd pounce on this immediately, as you could theoretically be playing the game as early as this weekend.

IF the whole thing is already in English, why isn't it coming out sooner for real in the states?

@Magnalon

Blame CoDMW2 but I completely agree with you there. All they would need to do is strip the Japanese subtitles and throw in direct speech to text english subs for the hearing impaired and change the region coding primarily for the 360 version.

Really you have Activision to blame for most of the game delays. Usually around this time a year I would be swarmed with new IP but it has been a relatively dull fall season. Of course it is hard to discount the heavy hitters like Uncharted 2(and Demon Souls if thats your niche) but compared to other years there hasn't been anything really surprising yet.

I can't speak for games, but this may be related- Blu Ray movie region codes are different than dvd regions, for example, for BluRay movies, the US and Japan are the same region. So it may be that it is not region free, it's just that we share a region.

Australia may be crappy with rating games, however you have to love that we have the same region code as japan! so bayonetta for 360 for me! :D

Make sure you check the 360 version includes english voices too first though. They can afford to be more lax on PS3, what with bluray and all.

I guess this news makes up for the fact the PS3 version is worse than the 360 version, eh?

Why would I want the inferior PS3 version?

I think I'll hold off and get the US 360 version.

Didn't they recently release a video showing that the PS3 version is the same as the 360 version now?

I remember something saying it wasn't as good, but then a while later an "oh, it's ok, it's been fixed" thing.

Either way, I'm not bothered by this game, did import Demon Soul's though as it doesn't have a UK publisher!!!! - Who says the UK charts being filled with Wii Shit has no impact on the rest of us???

It's nice for a change..so to speak. Asian xbox player get screwed a lot, as of now I'm still waiting for asian version of IL2-Bird of Prey and Section 8, and Fallout 3 GOTY(the chance is slim for last one, cruel Bethesda). F**k this stupid region lock thing, who's benefiting? Microsoft does not require RL, it's up to publishers, and some publishers are jerks.

Technically all PS3 games are region-free, but they CAN be made region-controlled if the publisher/developer so desires. Also, obviously, not every game contains the full English text/voice/localization needed to make it work for non-moonspeakers.

Is Sega doing the publishing? If so...that's really nothing new since Chromehounds (the Japanese version), was completely in English if your console is set to the language. Same thing with DMC4 , though that was published by Capcom.

Also, if it IS published by Sega on the 360, it should be import friendly. Most,if not all, Sega titles (from the Genesis Collection to the aforementioned Chromehounds to VF5) are region free.

Is there any chance that the US-release PS3 version will be further polished, and do we have any confirmation as to how the Japanese final PS3 build performs in comparison the the 360?

If there are still flaws with the final Japanese PS3 version, I'd rather wait for an even more polished port next year.

Eh. I'll wait for the 360 version. Not to mention I get a wall scroll for preordering it. As far as I know it comes in January, which isn't really that far away. Worth the wait for the superior version.
