Immortal: New Japan PSP bundle to include Final Fantasy VII photo

For Jenova's sake, give it a rest! Let the game die...or give it a full PS3 makeover.

A new Japanese PSP bundle has popped on on Amazon Japan's listings, and instead of bundling something new with the PSP-3000, Sony packs in Final Fantasy VII International. Well, it's not even a true bundle, as Andriasang says it comes with a product code for the download. Starting August 7th, this bundle will be available for all of the 3000 colors. Mind you, this is only an Amazon Japan listing, and has not been confirmed by Sony or Square Enix.

Why bother with the bundle? Well, this might only be attractive to those that want a new PSP, but it's nice to know that this game is basically free, as the asking price for the "bundle" is 19,800 yen, the standard PSP-3000 price. I guess we can't bitch about a free game...or maybe we can, since we all already own a couple of copies of it.

When you can suck a series this dry without even considering a remake, you know you've done something right.

Um...how many times has FFVII been re-released? Once, maybe?

It's not anywhere near as many times as Chrono Trigger (SNES, PS1, DS, and probably more) and the first FFs (NES, DS, PSP, PS1..etc) have been re-released, with no make-overs at all.

Cool, if you like to have that game for the 10th time or something. And when is FF VIII or IX coming to PSP? I know they are not as big as VII but they were very good final fantasy games too. Don't get me wrong, I love VII but I think we need some diversity.

I think the SNES/NES fan crowd can't take the fact that a PS1 era Final Fantasy is getting re-released over a dozen or so Chrono Triggers and FF 1&2's...seriously, quit being such fucking cry babies over this.

Waquan's first comment is right. This PSN re-release is the only true re-release of FF7 since it came out. Yeah, its had spin offs made and those all came 9-10 years AFTER the original games release... FF7 has stayed popular by its fanbase alone pretty much... SquareEnix did very little to ever help that until recently.

Also, "Let the game die...or give it a full PS3 makeover."

This is the most truthful statement ever posted on Destructoid.

If you take off the Square branded kneepads long enough: Squenix has pointed out repeatedly that FFVII is done, over, finis and that fans should, quote: get over it.

Yet every 6 months or so there's a new FFVII release of some kind: movie, game based on FFVII characters, extended movie, rerelease, etc.

So who's staying too long at the FFVII party? The fans or Square marketing?

Personally, I think THEY ought to let the entire series die and get back to making games that don't suck at Last Remnant, Infinite Undiscovery proportions.

What Waquan first said is pretty much on target. Stop complaining just because you all think you're supposed to when you see the title "Final Fantasy VII."

Do I really need to remind you all how many times FFI was remade/ported? That game has ports of ports.

A PSP bundle? Are you kidding me? Couldn't they have thought of a better game to bundle with? Like Monster Hunter? I always thought the PC version of FF7 was the best, well except for the bugs. And what's this about NES/SNES you guys are talking about?

Ah shit. I hate it when games get re-released, because there's this midget... err, "little person" living under my bed that holds a gun to my head every time a game is re-released and forces me to buy it. So I actually have a legitimate reason to be angry when a game is re-released. I don't understand why YOU guys are mad though.

I don't know why but any article on any gaming blog regarding ffvii causes a fight in the comments.

It always starts off like, "c'mon squenix give us a proper remake or leave it alone," then it ends up like, "squenix makes shit games now anyway" then it becomes all, "i'm a tough guy when I'm talking shit behind a computer screen."

Ffvii is apparently the malt liquor of video games, except the wu tang clan never made commercials for it.

I think the hate stems from the fact that rereleases take valuable resources away from Squeenix that could be used to make some new games. Or at least get FFXIII out the door.

I really doubt Squenix had to dump lots of resources into basically a direct port of the PSX version. At least it's not Infinite Undiscovery. They probably have lots of different teams working on different projects anyway, so this probably isn't affecting games like FFXIII at all.

It has a lot to do with Square's attitude towards FFVII fans, actually. That and the game is so dated graphically as to be (to me, at any rate) completely unplayable. I get that some people still play Pong, and that this is not a factor for everyone, but some people also eat lead paint chips and would vote for Sarah Palin.

It really bothers me when someone says they literally can't play it again due to the graphics...which, really aren't terrible. Dated, yes, but not terrible.

Are you seriously comparing playing old games to eating paint chips and voting republican? How old are you, twelve? FF7 is better than most, if not all games that come out today. If you refuse to play it just because of how it looks, then I guess you deserve to be deprived of such an awesome experience.

I do refuse to play it, it looks like shit. You're depriving me of very little. Have you tried playing this thing on a hi-def set via PS3 over HDMI? It makes FFVII look like PONG (for the slow folks, this is where the paint chip comment comes from) or at best Missile Command. Asteroids would look better by comparison. I stand by the comment.

But keep the dream alive Squenix fanboys.

You're an idiot. FFVII looks great in its native resolution on the PSP screen. Of course anything less than 480p is going to look like utter shit upscaled on a 720p/1080p HDTV. Also, anyone who places more value on the graphics is an idiot by default. So yeah, there's really no way to redeem yourself here.

Notice how the main discussion is on a PSP bundle anyway, not upscaling the damn thing on an HDTV. You're the last person that should be making the comments you're making, but feel free to keep making an ass of yourself.

Thank you for making my point, dbag. The comment made in the article was that Square should either quit pimping FFVII or give it an overdue PS3 remake.

I don't give a damn how you rate *your* games. Nobody is playing Secret of Monkey Island Special Edition in classic mode, and those who are really need to move on or receive a lobotomy. If you're a fan of pixelation, sobeit, but there are plenty of decent modern titles to play that won't make your eyes bleed on current technology. I suppose any game looks great if you play it on a small enough screen or pawn shop electronics. Kudos to Square though for finding the last platform, aside from the DS, that this game *might* look decent on.
-PL-'s Avatar - Comment posted on 07/30/2009 20:06

Actually, I have played FF7 on a PS3 over HDMI. I play it pretty regularly, what's your point? The graphics aren't as good as current-gen, because the game came out twelve years ago. That doesn't make it a bad game. It does, however, make you an idiot for judging games on graphics alone. Seriously?

Anyway, I've also played Pong, and FF7 looks nothing like it. I'm sure you probably think it's cute or funny to post such an exaggeration, but it actually just makes you look really ignorant and stupid. You should probably work on that.

AARRRGHH!! Why do screenshots of classic video games always look better on a computer monitor than it does on my HDTV?! NES games, and SNES are a given, but WHY does this look perfectly clear and sharp, where my HDTV makes FF7 look fuzzy?

I need a S-video to VGA convertor to play my classic consoles on my computer, I do.

It just occured to me how badass a FFVI remake for PSP would be instead of a FFIII and FFIV, Matrix Software-style remake for the DS would be. And make the characters look more like the FF7 3D models (in the battle mode) than 3D versions of the little pixelated, Chicken Mcnugget people.

Final Fantasy VII Director Yoshinori Kitase recently touched on the possibility of remaking the RPG classic for the PlayStation 3, stating that fans could “expect the probability of something spontaneous happening at some point.”

Kitase commented that if a remake were to transpire, it would have to include all of the core team members from the original 1997 PlayStation classic; something which isn’t possible right now due each individual’s commitments to other projects.

"My feelings are that if a remake were to work well then all the core members of the original team must be reassembled, all the artists and designers,” said Kitase.

“The problem is that, although all of us have an idea of what a remake should be and how to do it, organising such a thing right now is logistically very difficult. All the different members are now involved in very new, very large projects like Final Fantasy XIII and those projects are going to take a while.”

Despite this, he refused to completely rule out the chances of a remake on PS3, adding, “Maybe, when all those games are finished then we can look at doing something like that.”

”Of course, that said we came up with the idea for Crisis Core in just two days. It was a case of 'this is what we want to do, so let's do it'. So, you can definitely expect the probability of something spontaneous happening at some point, but it's hard to predict."

Stay tuned for further developments as they break.

here is the proof!
