Imitation is the highest form of flattery: 2K Sports releases cheats for NBA 2K8

Imitation is the highest form of flattery: 2K Sports releases cheats for NBA 2K8 photo
     PS3

I was getting really excited about asking my esteemed colleague Chad Concelmo to focus on NBA Jam for one of his Memory Card articles. But then I realized that the greatness of those games couldn’t technically be summed up in a “moment” per se, so that went out the window. Oh, well.

Regardless, some of my favorite memories from those old-school arcade-style basketball titles came out of the ridiculous cheat codes in the games. I know I’m not alone when I fondly recall throwing down dunks with Bill Clinton and Al Gore...good times, good times.

It seems that 2K Sports knows to pay homage to their predecessors and have a little fun, even in a sim atmosphere. They’ve just put out a bunch of cheat codes for NBA 2K8, and while you can’t play with Benny the Bull, there’s some good stuff there. For example, entering “payrespect” will allow you to play with the old red, white, and blue ABA ball.

Hit the jump for the full list, which contains ten cheats. And for those (few) of you who own NBA 2K8, let us know what these codes do. I’m particularly curious about the “VC team” cheat. Let’s just hope it’s something harmless like “Virtual Console” or “Vince Carter” as opposed to, say, “Viet Cong”...

Code Description
cpares IND secondary road uniform
agtaccsinr CHA racing uniform
amcnreo Valentine’s Day - CLE / SEA
haeitgyebs 2008 All-Star uniforms
uclerehanp St. Patrick’s Day - BOS / CHI / NY / TOR
llmohffaae Superstars team
nba2k NBA 2K team
2ksports 2K Sports team
vcteam VC team

@MrSadistic, EternalDeathSlayer: Ah, that’s right. I haven’t really followed basketball since the early 2000s, and I’m not very familiar with 2K’s sports games (I prefer EA’s stuff), so that’s why I didn’t pick up on that. Also, whenever I see “VC”, I think of the Virtual Console or the Vietnam War.

You prefer EA? Have you ever played 2K's NFL games? ESPN NFL Football 2K4 was fucking amazing.

I have 2k8 and I would try it, but my 360 is on it's 3rd RRoD and the fuckers at Microsoft said they would get back to me on how they would compensate me better than the shitty games they had already offered, which they never called me back. It's been 2 weeks.

Oh yea, a Memory Card article on NBA Jam would good stuff. I remember I use to bet money with kids around my neighborhood. The slam dunks were fucking great, the cheats were awesome and being on fire really had the character on fire!

"He's heating up... he's on fire!"

"For two!"

"Head fake"

oooooohhh I miss NBA Jam T.E.

That announcer's voice is tattooed on my ear drum that's how many hours I wasted playing that game dunking while on fire off of hot spots for five points.

That game should make its way to XBLA

Hey, don’t hate me for liking EA. I played NFL 2K5, which everyone fellated 2K for, and I just didn’t like it nearly as much as I liked Madden 2005. Of course, EA’s Madden NFL 2005 (Collector’s Edition) and MVP Baseball 2005 are two of my most favorite sports games ever, so it’s hard for other games to live up to that.

Visual Concepts (VC Team) is basically the development side of 2K Sports. They develop NBA and NFL (RIP) 2K and also help with NHL and MLB 2K.

I was a fucking NBA JAM junkie, I had regular edition and TE on SNES, as well as the PC port. The PC port was closer to the arcade and made me giddy.

Also VC cheat is visible cocks, not a good time.

Man, Remember that PS2 update of NBA Jam?

No?

Must've been a bad dream. Good thing it dosen't exist.

Man, i got both T.E. and regular NBA Jams, and they're the greatest Basketball gaems ever

Also, as far as NFL goes, 2k1 on DC is the best non tecmo football game ever.

@ Samit: To each his own, I suppose.

Are you getting MLB The Show 08 for PS3? I've been thinking about getting it, as I loved last year's gameplay. Graphics, not so much, but they seem nice this year. I want it, but I'm on the fence.

i cant agree with you more samit. madden 05 and mvp 05 are great. i really miss the mvp series. but by far the best sports game is nhl 03. the announcers are complete morons that spit out cheap jokes at a completely random time. the hits are so unrealistic its makes it that much better. and some of the goals that happen are hilarious. my friend and i play it religiously.

@EDS: Yeah, my copy should be arriving in the mail soon. Time permitting, I’ll be reviewing it for Dtoid, but if not, there’ll just be a comparison piece between MLB 08: The Show and MLB 2K8.

Meh, those cheats seem pretty lame to me. WTB something that unlocks Michael Jordan. How come he's never in any games any more? :/

Also, on the rapist thing; IIRC, that trashy slut showed up with some guys jizz (not Kobe's) in her panties when she reported the "rape" and had a rape kit done. Out of court settlement or no, I would question her credibility.

Jordan was for the most time of his career never a member of the Players union, the one which is making the deals with companys like EA or 2K so that they can put in real NBA players in the games. I don`t know exactly why Jordan never entered this Union, I think it was because he wnated to handle all his merchandising deals by himself or something like that. However, when he returned to play for Washington he became a member of that union for a short term and that years Version of NBA Live (03,04 or 05, one of them I believe) actually had the real MJ in it.
