Image of 'Nintendo Selects' Wii budget titles surfaces photo

Earlier today, we told you about the rumored line of budget games for Wii, which is set to roll out along with the also-rumored price drop for the system later this month. Quick update on that front!

Images of the proposed budget games and Wii Mario Kart bundle are now circulating the Internet. It seems the line is going to be called "Nintendo Selects," not "Wii Select," which is all the same to me. I was more worried about how obtrusive the new box art would be; could be much, much worse.

I suppose this also gives more credibility to what are still unconfirmed rumors, not that we were putting on our tinfoil hats or anything.

About damn time this happened. I hope some third party games get the this treatment, like Madworld, Zack and Wiki and Red Steel 2.

Judging from the games above it might just be first-party Nintendo games only..

Why is Wii Sports in there? It comes free with every Wii, so why would it be placed in a series whose point is to reduce the price?

@ VG freak: because Nintendo is getting the bright idea to sell it separately...

Why do these greatest hits always look so ugly? It's almost like a slap in the face. " You waited this long to get the game, and your going to get it at a cheaper price, but the packaging is going to look like crap, and exclaim that you are a cheap ass, and you waited for a price drop"

Overall I'm happy they're doing this and this isn't the worse I've seen, but the "greatest hits" covers bother me and actually deter me from buying a new copy (I really dislike those red PS3 cases), and instead propel me into buying a used copy with the original non intrusive labeling.

@ VGfreak it's packaged with the Wii in all territories, except for Japan, and if you buy a used Wii console you don't get the game, So it might be useful to some.

Love those "de luxe" designs.
But am I the only one who's still waiting for the Wii port of Chibi Robo and Pikmin 2. They've been out in Japan (and everywhere else, except for North America, in Pikmin's case) for at least 2 years!

In Japan these are all 3rd party games that get this treatment, yet another thing about NOA I don't like.

I don't understand the point in printing out new shitty box art. This goes for the big 3.

You can have the same effect by putting a sticker on the shrink wrap saying Best Seller 19.99 MSRP

Why don't they understand this. Instead they ugly shit up or give a ugly red box. usually when this happens To a game I wanted to buy I end up buying used to ensure I get the original box.

As far as budget re-releases go, that looks pretty classy. I wouldn't expect this to go outside of first party releases though, most good 3rd party games are already $15 or less on amazon. Sonic colors already hit $19 a day or two ago.

I really do hate the box art! I just don't like how it is smaller, and has that velvet gradient effect behind it. And theres that weird ribbon thing at the top.

I'm just a box art whore though :)

Nintendo's doing a Mario Kart Wii bundle and apparently they're taking WiiSports out. So if anyone still wants it, they can just get it for $20 now.

i can't believe nintendo have started putting those best hit titles on the wii. this is the first time since launch i have seen the wii doing this. though gamcube had a player's choice label but i just don't like this extra labels on the box.

it's bad enough if the artbox is a generic one.

My friend's have never understood why I despised greatest hits coves, glad I'm not alone. That being said, I make exceptions for cases that change the artwork in celebration of their greatest hits status.

All the Wii games I care about are still $49.99, even games going back to 2008 like Mario Galaxy and Smash Bros. Maybe at the end of it's life I'll get a Wii when all the games are cheap but I guess that won't be for a while

good job nintendo, i congratulate you on FINALLY releasing zelda from your icy, high priced clutches. it only took you... wait, HOW long did it take you to do this? does anyone even care anymore?

much like osama's death, i have to ask if this is even relevant anymore.

thats right, i just made a nintendo/osama comparison. its late. and cmon, it took almost the entire console lifecycle for them to make it a budget game. who does that?
