Ikaruga drops to half price as XBL Deal of the Week photo

Originally 800 Microsoft points, some obscure game called Ikaruga has been declared Xbox Live's Deal of the Week from now until Monday, July 20th; available to XBL Gold members for a mere 400 points. Not sure what it's all about, but it looks to be some kind of scrolly, shooty thing with lots of bullets.

Ikaruga ... That's like a Greek word or something, right? I've never heard of it myself, but at half price it's probably worth checking out. You know, if you're into that sort of thing. I guess. Anyway, I suppose if you don't already have this, uh ... whatever this is, now would be a pretty good time to get it.  I'm also hearing that 7-Eleven has some kind of frozen drink which is supposed to be kind of good, I might look into that, too.

Ikaruga for $5?!?! Man, it's time like these where I wish I actually had a 360 so I can download great games like this.

See, they say it only costs $5.00, but that's a lie. You'll also need to spend a few bucks on an athletic cup (the males will, at least) for all of the times that the game does punch you right in the crotch. Then there's the years of psychotherapy necessary after you have a breakdown from all of the crotch punches. So, really, this game costs more like $40,015. Not worth it, friends. Not worth it.

Aw, for Gold only? I should really go ahead and buy a 1-year subscription one of these days...

It doesn't matter whether you're "into" scrolling Shoot-em-ups or not, for $5 every X360 owner must get this or be labeled a fool forever. Forever ever.

Hard? Oh no... it's rather easy, as a matter of fact! You just curl up and wait to die miserably as the game mercilessly destroys your dignity, kills your family, rapes your mother and makes your dog eat its own shit. Doesn't get any easier than that, really :p

Wow, I'm shocked. As an incredibly frugal XBLM shopper, I'm surprised I bought something when it wasn't at its cheapest. I picked this up the week it was released, though, and $10 was a perfect price point... Too bad Microsoft disagrees and releases everything as $15 now. I guess I can look forward to sales of the once-normal $10.

Either way, anyone who enjoys shoot-'em-ups, and a challenge, (and doesn't own Ikaruga already) needs to get this game!

Bought.

I figure buying the titles when they're this cheap can only tell MS that 1200+ points is too much for most of the stuff on XBLA. I just wish that Lost Cities, Double Dragon and others had just been reduced in price before they got removed from the service. WTF.

I also have it on GC, but for $5 it sounds worth buying the updated version for anyone who owns a 360. HD graphics, online co-op play, achievements, and leaderboards? Sweet!

But is it true that all the levels have been flipped to mirror images in this version?

Ikaruga is one of the worst video games ever made. Any game that can't be played or beaten by 99% of the game public may be interesting, but if that game begets it's famous difficulty through dead design notions like enemy placement memorization, it is not worth our time or money.

@Droll:
That is one of the dumbest comments that I've ever read in my life.

Do you really think that a game needs to be designed so that it can be mastered by 99% of the gaming public to be worthwhile? I understand if Ikaruga doesn't appeal because you're simply not up to the challenge, but it sounds like you've missed the point of the game...

Play whatever you want, but don't trash the games that others enjoy.

@Droll You're just wrong with that comment. It might not be your type of game, but that doesn't make it "one of the worst video games ever made".

The polarity change mechanic alone makes this game worth playing, not to mention the killer soundtrack/puzzle elements.

I already have this as a not-burned copy for Dreamcast, Gamecube and XBLA. If only I could buy it again though, I would. There is a shop I know that's selling the Dreamcast game for £45 though. It's tempting...

If only it weren't a nightmare for me to buy things off XBLA, worry about the DRM with swapping between an online and an offline console, and I actually had a Gold subscription, I'd buy this!

Since I dont, I guess i'll have to stick to the demo. Its not like i'm ever going to pass taht anyway..
