IGN's resident Nintendo commando Matt Cassamassina pulled a Greybush on his blog on friday -- I mean, of course, telling everybody that he has key information that would rock yo' world, y'know, if we was only able to spill it. Mind, the Greybush is a fundamentally different maneuver than the Linde, which -- well, you know.
There's some shady stuff goin' down, kids; stuff so shady I created an ill-fated reference to a forgotten Conan segment just to express it. Matt dropped the bomb Friday that he has bombs to drop, but can't, because Nintendo would drop bombs on him. Since that sentence makes virtually no sense, witness the following quote from his blog:
There are some potentially crazy-awesome games coming down the pipeline for Wii, by the way. You guys have no idea. I know that's vague -- has to be, but I've seen some stuff that you simply have no idea even exists and frankly, if you did, you'd flip out. Comments like these have a way of backfiring on me and i'm sure some people will be annoyed that I've even brought up, since I'm unable to give even a hint about the projects in question. Others will undoubtedly say that I'm merely making crap up because there's no way anybody can disprove statements that are intentionally so unrevealing. But whatev. I know that if I was in your position, I'd be happy just to know that some very cool, unexpected stuff is brewing somewhere way behind-the-scenes.
Happy? Not quite, Matt. I love my Wii and I'm having a great time with it, but once I've finished with the current stock of games -- what then? Sure, I'll be the first to acknowledge the fact that the first year of a console's existence tends to be the slowest. But if developers (particularly Nintendo and their illustrious and legendary in-house development studios) have something up their sleeve,
now is the time to tell us about it. No amount of "oh god guys you have no idea seriously" is going to make the wait any easier. We're gnashing our teeth! Slide us an announcement or two, already!

personally i'm excited for whats upcoming for the wii. that forever blue game, and wii fitness look interesting, as well as disaster.
"...they haven't released a good game for the Wii yet..."
Really? Are you sure aren't getting confused with an unnamed 4D system?
I like my Wii, I like the games I have for it. I want a 360 then, if Sony pulls its heads out of its ass, I want a PS3. Until I save up the scrap. I play and enjoy my Wii.
it's hard to imagine that the wii in 2007 will best a console that'll house the likes of halo 3, mass effect, bioshock, too human (if it comes out this year), UT3, the darkness, orange box, gta, alan wake, alone in the dark, fable 2... i could go on. it just goes without saying that the 360's lineup is absolutely killer this year. i'd say it's seemingly got triple A for almost every genre, but if you want a game where you play a surgeon or cook cartoon eggs then you need to have a wii... just kidding. i'm really looking forward to mario galaxy and metroid 3, but i just can't imagine how the wii's lineup this year is the best EvAr! considering the contents of this post.
Sonic turned out to be actually a lot of fun and SSX Blur comes out Tuesday. I haven't paid much attention beyond that, but I believe Paper Mario is in April.
If it's not true, well, that's fine too. I'm sure I'll get over it and play some of the numerous games for other systems.
"I got a popsicle! Yo mom's on welfare!"
Whatever.
Industry talking heads don't have shit to say.
Game "journalists" who "interview" them have less to say.
BFD, Matt signed a EULA that says he can tell us about the hot, new games exactly three hours before they hit Best Buy.
Game journalism is straight-up horseshit.
NDA not EULA.
Heh.
When the games hit the shelves and are widely reveiwed as quality content, then and only then will I buy these so-called must-have next-gen systems.
But in absolutely no way in hell is it going to be as big as Mr, tight-lips swears it will be
He makes it sounds as if Nintendo is going to win the console war singlehaldedly with these titles.
You can hype a good game. He can say he saw the Wii exclusive new Zelda title and hype it and BOOM the internets explodes. But you simply cannot take "nothing" and hype it like Cassamassina is doing. this is like last months Konami's announcement. Only difference is Konami had shit to show for all the hype.
Nintendo has something great in the works. nothing groundbreak or earth shattering. But something very good that we will be anticipating
You go, Nintendo!
But I'm afraid I must simply have different standards. I am incredibly excited about the games coming out for the Wii, including ones I didn't name such Heatseeker and the second Zelda (which is already in the works and won't merely be a Gamecube port.)
I feel you on wanting those good first party titles, but there needs to be good third support. Yeah, there are a lot of games in development, but will those games be any good?
I think Manhunt 2 will be fun. What other third party titles are you excited about?
perhaps the info was about that.
There's also a load that are on the back of my mind, like the ones in that top ten list that was released on the blog here. I could describe some of them (I don't remember the names) and if half of them are good, I'm happy.
Magician Lord
Nam 1975
Super Spy
Fatal Fury
King of Fighters
Samurai Showdown
Sheesh
But I don't really consider the decision to buy a Wii as an exclusive thing; if/when I go nexgen, it'll probably be with either a PS3/Xbox360 AND a Wii; they just aren't comparable. The huge games that come out on every system will still be on the Wii, usually with a neat twist (Marvel Alliance, Call of Duty 3, Madden). That also said, there's not much on that list that looks that appealing. I'll wait for the reviews on Metroid, but I've never been a big fan of the series. The tech demo of Scarface, the Manhunt game (if it materializes)....those are the games that I'm excited about. Every other console relies on 3rd party developers to create the coolest stuff on their console; Nintendo's going to be the same way.
I'm almost starting to think that the big in is crazy like a Fox for making the Wii such a low-tech graphics thing....developers can't just port in the exact same titles that are going Xbox360/PS3, they have to develop SPECIFICALLY for the Wii...which also makes sure that the controls actually take advantage of the wiimote and aren't just tacked on. Because of it the Wii is probably going to have the most exclusive titles of any system this gen. And low price means that you'll pick one up JUST for the exclusive stuff. Crazy. Like a fox.
"After she spiked my drink, we had sex. Well, when I say we, my dick was underperforming so I used a Wiimote. BONUS POINTS****
Then she told me everything about the Wii, including why she lied about backwards compatibility. It was to piss us Nintendudes off and make us realise they have pulled the wool over our eyes! She also told me I was her everything."

I never thought of it from that angle, that's actually a really good point. I know everybody has already said to death that great exclusives are the only thing that will sell the PS3 and there aren't that many on the way, but I never thought about thinking about the Wii like that.
(i heart nintendo)
Actually gamespot reviewed twillight princess before destructoid so i have no idea what you are talking about
Did people buy the iPod because they tried what the competition had and made a rational decision? Nope, they bought it because it had cool ads and all their friends had one.
The reaction when Sony showed off prerendered Motorsports footage? Ho hum. The reaction when Raving Rabids ran around scraming with plungers? GOTTA HAVE IT! Neither campaign showed any in-game footage, but we all know rabbits with plungers are cooler, so the game is going to be better!
For crying out loud... buy a console when games you like come out. Stop falling for this hype bullshit, or it's only going to get worse.
And I bought a gamecube for Smash Bros. and Zelda. Same for any other game. So every console I get its based on what games I see and what I like, not hype or promises of what my roughly 300$ investment might turn out to be.
I expect the Wii to sell a lot of hardware, but not a lot of software. Nintendo is attacking the casual gamer, and casual gamers don't dump tons of money into games. The few games they do buy will be those first party games Nintendo is releasing.
Didn't we see comments like this all the time when the DS first came out? Just like the DS, give the Wii a little time. Developers see how well it's doing and believe it or not, they have some creative people working for them and we will see good things come from it.
