IGN readers HATE Modern Warfare 2 photo

Prepare your sides for the splitting of a lifetime, because this is comedy you just can't buy! IGN officially gave the PC version of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 a 9.5, but when you compare it to the average reader review, something doesn't quite add up. That's because the reader rating for MW2 currently stands at 1.3!

It seems that a lynch mob of PC gamers, angry over the lack of dedicated servers and 9v9 multiplayer cap, have descended upon IGN's reader reviews like piranha's on a tampon. Post after post of vitriol and hatred have been heaped upon this game and "Insanity Ward," with such scathing reviews as:

I WAS TRYING TO PLAY THE SINGLE PLAYER, BUT I THINK I MUST HAVE BLINKED OR SOMETHING, BECAUSE I WAS AT DA END OF THE GAME BEFORE I KNOW IT. THIS IS WHAT THE SINGLE PLAYER WAS LIKE: SHOOTING GALLERY, FAKE MOVIE BIT, SHOOTING GALLERY, FAKE MOVIE BIT, SHOOTING GALLERY, OVER. IT WAS THE WURST.

And:

This game more fail than the Gov't run health bill that was just passed.

There is just too much hilarity for me to post, so I urge everybody check it out before IGN cleans it up. For posterity purposes, I've taken a few screengrabs as well, because I believe this should be recorded as a great and historic event. I truly believe that this is the greatest moment in American history.

9.5 seems too high, seeing as almost everything about the multiplayer is a step back from the first MW.

Oh man...that IGN stuff is just comedy gold.

Thanks Jim, that really made my morning. But I do think it is highly suspect that MW2 PC got a 9.5.

As someone who honestly isn't bothered about this game, the controversy has been rather entertaining I must say.

Absolutely priceless.

9.5 IS much too high of a score, from what I've played so far, but these reader reviews are simply amazing.

Funny enough though, he does spell "worse" correctly later on in his Presentation review.

"ABSOLUTELY RUBBISH PRETSENTINGS, SOME OF THE WURST PRESENTINGS EVER TO BE HAVE MADE IN THE HISTORY OF COMPUTER GAMES. THE ONLY WAY IT BEEN WORSE IS IF IT STABBED ME IN THE EYE."

Maybe it was a friends sausage trying to stab him in the eye......?

It doesn't have to be angry PC gamers. It could be any gamer angry at the high RRP, short single player and general contempt show by Kotick and Activision.

Though I can understand how they feel, removing mod support and custom maps just to flog DLC later is a dick move - but on the bright side they have such revolutionary features as MOUSE CONTROL, INGAME TEXT CHAT and GRAPHICS SETTINGS.

These games are always overrated. Then again, I don't give a shit about multiplayer. So, maybe that's why I don't perceive a reasonable value in shelling out $60 for six hours of (single-player) gameplay.

In fairness though, the internet connection was tested under non-ideal conditions where there was no-one on IWnet at the same time as the reviewers were. It's not really representative of how the connections will work.

However that kind of thing won't affect the average user, which is what the review aims at, really.

And those comments really don't do us PC gamers any favours, at all. At all.

Honestly, I can understand some of the rage. The idea that no one cares about single player just isn't true. There are plenty of people out there who still place a lot of value in a compelling and lengthy SP experience, and it looks like MW2 looks to have stepped up the cheesiness and stepped down the length, both of which are deserving of criticism.

@Crazyape people are pissed because they can no longer have decent online competitive scene as they used to have in the other cod games. cause there are no quality servers or a proper mod, among several other things.

PC gamers are like the spoiled rich kids who do something bad at their private school, and get punished by having to now go to public school. Sure, they're going to go, but they're going to bitch about it, and still wear their private school jacket.

They're so used to having their dedicated servers and high player counts that they can't see a well crafted, well thought out game staring them in the face. IWNet was basically created as a way to prevent people from stealing their game, and then creating their own servers to play it on. PC gamers are notorious for this practice, even when their games are consistently cheaper than console games. So IW and Activision decided they were tired of giving PC gamers their game for free, and kicked them to public school with the rest of the console gamers, giving them the same great experience console gamers have. COD4 was great on the console, and so is MW2.

Get ready for a bit of a wakeup call PC gamers, cause MW2 is only the beginning of the end for Dedicated Servers, because other developers are waking up and realizing that they'd rather go with controlled matchmaking than allow you to play their game for free.

Before you guys get on me about being a console gamer, I happen to own, and play COD4 on the PC (legally bought), and I think it's great. But for someone who could care less about Dedicated Servers, I say who needs them.

@dtoidbadmrk its funny seeing someone wrtie a wall of text like that, and having no clue about what they are talking about.

since cod2 the cod competitive scene is HUGE. just checked one of the numerous Ladder sites our there and they have over 20 000 teams (cod2+cod4). nearly 10 thousand of the teams are playing actively. they are playing the game under specific competitive mods and dedicated servers. all of them have legal copies of the game, or else they would not be allowed to participate.

after all this years, iw decides to ruin everything for the people that pretty much carried the game to what it is today.

ye no big deal.
