If there's anyone who knows a thing or two about whips, it's Castlevania producer Koji Igarashi. Considering his history with the game industry dating back to the early 90s, he also knows a bit about making a decent game.

So how about that Castlevania game for the Wii where the Wii Remote is swung like a whip? It's totally brilliant, dude! Eh, not so much, according to Igarashi.

"I still think it's going to get tiring after a while," he told MTV Multiplayer.

Agreed. I think we're all a bit burnt out on games that turn into "waggle-fests." But there's still hope, as Igarashi has had a Castlevania game for the Wii on his brain.

"I've been thining about about different ways [to use the Wii]," he says. "I see it as a viable platform, the more and more I think about it."

That vid reminds of the time I heard a kid in the grocery store singing "Baby Got Back", only less epic.

I think more games should mimic No More Heroes use of the WiiMote. I think using the WiiMote to whip special attacks or killing blows would be incredibly satisfying without getting tiresome.

Here's how you put Castlevania on the Wii:

1) 3D Sidescroller
2) aim the whip/subweapon with the remote
3) throw in great graphics and music
4) ?????
5) PROFIT!

This isn't really news, he mentioned it many times before.

Phoenix Gamma's got it right. I'd also add some simple Wiimote movements, ala No More Heroes. In context, but not at tedium, for special moves and killing blows and the like.

Somehow, as soon as I saw this post, I knew that the video was going to be of that song.

If you get tired from flicking your wrist with the Wii remote, you need to hit the goddamned gym. =P

Wait, did we put "Breaking News" in the headline somewhere? I mean, I wrote this and I'm pretty sure I didn't.

NMH wasn't a waggle fest, but it was certainly tiring after a while...especially with the one assassination mission in which you have to kill 100 people in, what, five minutes? It sounds more like he might've played Dragon Blade: Wrath of Fire. Holy fucking stiff controls, Batman! I felt like I was gonna throw my back out!

By the way, has IGA said anything about the Wii functionality in OoE that is referenced with a menu option on the title screen?

I really hope a Castlevania on Wii surfaces, and that it isn't a metroidvania style one. Anyone, more like Old Castlevania? Anyone?

I'm all for a Wii Castlevania, do it kinda like Odin Sphere and I'd be all over that.

Nick: I know that, I just don't think it's article worthy. I think posting a link to the gametrailers interview with him would have been more informational.

More importantly, does he have any clue how to make a CV game that isn't a copy pasta of SotN?

They should do it Ninja Gaiden/God of War style and yes have a No More Heoroes type control. Oh and make the game with plenty of complex secret-hiding levels.

I don't know, swinging the Wiimote as a sword in Zelda didn't get tiring, although it wasn't a particularly interesting addition, either.

This is good news! A developer who knows when to pull on the reins of "next gen" sillyness. And let us rejoice that he is at least thinking about a Castlevania game for a console system finally. Woohoo!

I was also thining about this the other day.

Okami has those whip-like weapons, and I found using the wii remote to attack with them to be really enjoyable (much more than the shields, anyway).

I think the problem with waggle-controls is that it doesn't mesh well with action that requires/benefits from button mashing. The remote can't keep up, you get out of sync, and then you get pissed.

In Okami, because one swing of the whip would score multiple hits, it effectively discouraged trying to 'button mash', since you wanted to wait for the chain-hit counter to run up before you swung it again. As a result, I thought the controls were really smooth, and would translate excellently into a Castlevania game.

Just make a full blown 2D SotN 2 for retail. I'd buy it.
