If there's anyone who knows a thing or two about whips, it's Castlevania producer Koji Igarashi. Considering his history with the game industry dating back to the early 90s, he also knows a bit about making a decent game.
So how about that Castlevania game for the Wii where the Wii Remote is swung like a whip? It's totally brilliant, dude! Eh, not so much, according to Igarashi.
"I still think it's going to get tiring after a while," he told MTV Multiplayer.
Agreed. I think we're all a bit burnt out on games that turn into "waggle-fests." But there's still hope, as Igarashi has had a Castlevania game for the Wii on his brain.
"I've been thining about about different ways [to use the Wii]," he says. "I see it as a viable platform, the more and more I think about it."
1) 3D Sidescroller
2) aim the whip/subweapon with the remote
3) throw in great graphics and music
4) ?????
5) PROFIT!
Wait, did we put "Breaking News" in the headline somewhere? I mean, I wrote this and I'm pretty sure I didn't.
He must have already gotten Wii Fit!
Okami has those whip-like weapons, and I found using the wii remote to attack with them to be really enjoyable (much more than the shields, anyway).
I think the problem with waggle-controls is that it doesn't mesh well with action that requires/benefits from button mashing. The remote can't keep up, you get out of sync, and then you get pissed.
In Okami, because one swing of the whip would score multiple hits, it effectively discouraged trying to 'button mash', since you wanted to wait for the chain-hit counter to run up before you swung it again. As a result, I thought the controls were really smooth, and would translate excellently into a Castlevania game.
