Also, New Game+ AND Perma-Death? Daaaaaaaaamn.
Look devs, I understand the concept of escalation and all, but you seriously need to tone it down.
Darksiders was a big game; my first play-through was about 20-25 hours give or take. You didn't have to try to outgun Oblivion in scope for the sequel, another 20 to 25 hours would have been OK.
Four times the size? If this is true, you're insane, and you're taking a huge financial risk on a game's first sequel, that also happens to change the game's genre from action adventure to full-on RPG.
Very, VERY reckless.
Vigil may not like hearing all the comparisons to Zelda, but I can pretty much play Zelda games forever, and the same goes for Darksiders. If they keep making them, I'll keep buying them.
Darksiders 2 has been pre-ordered for OnLive. No doubt I'll buy it for either 360 and/or PS3 too eventually, as I did with the first. Just doing my bit.
That being said, if 3 stars Strife, I'm down. His design alone was fucking badass.
Also if they keep building and improving on the game mechanics, I bet they would also be hits. Like the idea of feeding weapons you find to your favorite weapon to improve it, that's just an awesome mechanic.
Fury could be a complete asshole like Kratos to juxtapose himself against the existing two horsemen, and Strife could be self-loathing, and very interesting, with a sympathetic backstory.
I agree, they could work.
I've been telling my friends this for years. Get all 4 horsemen, give them their own unique abilities or a class and put them into a beat em up/adventure game with coop. Would be awesome if done correctly.
I don't know how to properly answer your question.
I always forget that they changed them in the game.
@Tek
1) That's what the game calls them.
2) Pestilence has always been a disputed term for that particular horseman.
Plus, honestly, you work in reporting game news, you know games can just be canned simply because the studio shut down. Not saying I want it to happen, but I'd never 100% count on a sequel to any game that isn't directly made by a publisher, or hasn't broken records..
"...as well as a fully fleshed out New Game+ mode, which the first game lacked."
Feels like you say "lacked" as if it needed it or would have benefited from it. Did you play the first game? A new game + would have been ridiculously easy unless they upped the health on everything. The puzzles and placement of things would have probably been the same and people would have breezed right through, like Taco Bell through a toddler. The only benefit would have probably been to some of the more grindy achievements.
The fact that Darksiders 2 is going more 'open world', 4x the size, loot/gear drops(and gear sets), skill-trees and so on; shit, thats insane and I love it.
Watch, Darksiders 3 will be a first or third person shooter as we play as Strife. =]
It's like what happened with Studio 38 and the ToA: Reckoning game. If you're saying '3 million or bust', then you already lack confidence in your game and your skills SUCK. This isn't a phone-a-thon jackass... don't plead with people to buy this many, tell us why we should buy it in the first place.
As for the new mode, yeah, it would have benefited from it, just like any NG+ mode is beneficial. Of course it will be the same game, but with higher difficulty... just like any NG+ mode is. Have you never played Arkham City, Demon's/Dark Souls, Prototype, and the many others that featured it?
Just imagine what it would be like when he pulled out.
With all those little scales and such.
