If this latest video for Mercenaries 2: World in Flames is anything to go by, Pandemic's decision to delay the game was a brilliant one.
Hit the play button to catch a glimpse of the fun to be had in Mercenaries 2 as lead designer Scott Warner takes us through one of the game's missions using three different mercenaries, each with their own unique way of completing the objective.
Besides the seemingly repetitious quick time events used during the hijacking sequences, there was nothing shown in the video that didn't A) make Mercs 2 look like pure, unadulterated fun and B) make me want to get my hands on the game immediately.
For the unedited footage of each character's play-through, hit up the game's official site.
looks nice- wasn't on my list- but it definitely ranks a second place nod if I have time for another game- I guess I really have till september for the 5 games backlogged for the ps3
You can blow up EVERYTHING, and even though the tactical, covert and head-on assaults were all pretty much the same, you obviously still get to approach missions differently with each character, which is cool.
The game is obviously designed to be fun first and foremost, which is great. I'm glad they haven't toned down the sheer level of win to make room for realism.
The objective didn't seem so clear to me.. You drive in, shoot some people, drop a helicopter, then just order some huge missile to blow everything up & drive away? Okay then.
i was very excited at first about this game, being a venezuelan, just wanted to see the locations, but this is lame! they just taken assets from different cities and bunched all together... at least in one of the videos they have the maracaibo´s lake bridge.
I never got to play the first game, but this looks great! The first game looked like it had a cartoony feel, and this game is more realistic, but both definitely have the BOOM! factor.
looks good, except for the fact that it all seems a bit..dry. as in made after a recipe. a bit of free roaming, multiple approaches possible, destructable environmet, all that.
makes me think of just cause. looked cool in the trailers, got boring pretty quick after i started playing it. if there's nothing there to push me through a game, i wont play it just 'cause i can blow up a building or two.
so if everyone's allowed to pick on too human for looking mediocre, i'll pick on this for being a by-the-book shooter that brings nothing new.
probably playable for a couple of hours, though.
loopholezero I think Just Cause borrowed from Mercs than the other way around. Just Cause just forgot to add the fun stuff like destructible envoirnments, air strikes, and fun vehicles, fun shooting mechanics and good pyhsics. The driving in Just Cause is some of the wonkiest for a games thats only a few yesr old. The Helicopter controls were retarded when you compare them to the helicopter controls in Mercs. And while that game map in JC is huge theres not much to it; the sparse cities that do exist are copy-pasta of crappy looking buildings. I almost purchased Just Cause based on the similarities to the original Mercenaries games but luckily I rented it first and saved myself the grief. Just Cause is a just a shell. Its a just another third person sandbox game without fun or soul.
To Mercenaries isn't about bringing something new and exciting. Its making existing concepts as fun as possible. I still play the original Mercs on my 360 despite tons of "next-gen" games being available.
Everyone is entitled to their opinion and I respect that. These types of games aren't for everyone and maybe you're looking for more original ideas and thats cool. I just think its unfair to compare this to Just Cause when other than the fact that they are both third person sandbox-ish games in a tropical setting, they really aren't in the same league.
If Mercenaries 2 is anything liek the original only bigger with more vehicles, larger maps, more airstrikes, better destructibility and CO-OP then I'll gladly pay the $60 and have confidence it was money well spent since I still visit the original Mercs.
@D-Nez: i haven't played the 1st mercenaries, so i didn't know whether it was better than just cause or not. the empty shell thing is what i had in mind when i compared this to JC. the bad impression that JC left on me has prolly spread to anything that's similar. but if the gameplay in mercs is a bit less repetitive, it might be alright :)
