If Batman: Arkham Asylum is delayed we will cry (Update) photo

Damned the folks at Game Informer for starting a silly rumor that we simply don't want to believe.

According to the magazine that broke the news on Batman: Arkham Asylum earlier this year, the game may not meet its target ship date. Right now, retailers and print ads are suggesting a June 23 release, in line with Eidos Interactive and Warner Bros. blanket "summer statement." According to Game Informer, sources close to the game are saying it's being shuffled back to the fourth quarter of 2009. When contacted by Game Informer, the publisher had no comment.

Bad news for a few reasons, the first of which is OMG WE WANNA PLAY BATMAN RIGHT NOW!11!! But on top of that, we hardly have a full picture of what's coming this holiday, but we expect it to be packed with heavy-hitters. Does Batman really want to contend with that?

For those of you who can't wait, a PlayStation 3 demo of Batman: Arkham Asylum is playable in kiosks at GameStops around the United States. It features one brawler challenge room, with a few waves of baddies to pummel with your batfists and batfeet. When we asked Warner Bros. when or if a demo would come home, we were told that the plans were unclear.

[Update: Eidos Interactive and Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment have confirmed the release date shift for Batman: Arkham Asylum. The new date is slated for a very vague "summer 2009."

"This additional time will allow us to ensure Batman: Arkham Asylums is of the hightest quality for gamers," they said.

When asked to clarify what they meant by "summer," Eidos/Warner Bros. wouldn't clarify.]

So then...according to your title, if the rumor is that we'll cry.

Anyhow, I'm not sure how much I am anticipating this game yet, so I don't know how much the delay would effect me.

@Palidi:

"So then...according to your title, if the rumor is that we'll cry."

...what? :D According to the title, if the rumor is true, we will cry. Is that what you were trying to say? Because that is correct!

A delayed game is eventually good, but a bad game is bad forever.

Played the demo at a kiosk at Gamestop. Though it only featured the combat portion of the game, it felt pretty tight and close to ready. So, I doubt it's related to quality. Sounds to me like Square decided to move around the release schedule after the Eidos purchase to maximize the numbers at the end of the year.

Saying it like this

"Rumor: Batman: Arkham Asylum may be delayed." or "Rumor: Batman: Arkham Asylum to be delayed." makes the delay of the game the focus of the "Rumor:" part.

The way you have it worded makes the "we will cry" part the focus of the "Rumor:" part.

In all seriousness though, I'm just having a little fun, don't mind me, seriously XP.

Lets just hope its rumor right now and they are not holding it back until the holidays. While I'm sure their business people are telling them to do this, especially after some analyists said the reseccion might be over in some states by then I don't want this to happen. Uncharted and Modern Warfare 2 are first day buys for me, let alone what else gets announced for this holiday. If there are more must have games during this holiday I can totally see this getting lost in my shuffle of purchases.

Will I cry? No. Am I disappointed? Yes. It better be delayed for the better good though. No broken game at launch with multiple updates to download. I'm actually looking forward to playing this Batman game. Haven't had a good one to play for a long time... I think it was back from the Genesis era!

WE NEED MORE SUMMER RELEASES!
The June 23 release would be perfect to kick off the summer. I want my Batman and BlazBlue within a week of each other!

Don't know if I should buy or not, the game looks sweet, but I usually want to wait for a review before buying. And the collector's edition looks even sweeter, but if I wait for a review, the collector's edition might run out! Tough choice...

Shame if it's true. I can't think of any other game that interests me during the summer.

This is why I wish publishers would wait till the game was done before they start throwing out random release dates.
