Prior to speaking with id Software’s community manager Peter Sokol -- literally seconds before our interview -- I researched the Wolfenstein franchise. I read a few blurbs on Internet Web sites, tried to get through a preview or two, and clicked a few random links on Wikipedia. Through my careful research and analysis, I found that the Wolfenstein franchise has never starred a wolf and neither will Raven Software’s new title. What’s up with that?
Speaking with me about the lack of a wolf protagonist in Wolfenstein, Sokol confirmed that players wouldn’t be able to play as a wolf. “[There is nothing in Wolfenstein] about a wolf,” Sokol said. “It dates back to 1992 where you gave Blazkowicz the Office of Secret Actions agent, who’s just – he’s the guy they send in when the chips are down and the Nazis are researching all this dark science. He’s the only guy they can really trust to get the job done. So, you play a one man army, not a wolf, but a one man army.”
Bummer. How about a wolf as downloadable content? Sokol seemed sure that it wouldn’t happen, but didn’t rule out the possibility.
“As far as I know, we will not be seeing anything as far as a wolf, but as far as downloadable content, we haven’t made any announcements on that kind of stuff yet.”
In addition to a wolf, Raven Software’s Wolfenstein won’t have helicopters or anacondas. I know this because I asked. id Software probably thinks I’m retarded.

Destructoid is an open discussion community. You don't need to "audition" to post a comment - just speak your mind. We respect differing opinions on the site, so have at it. Be smart, funny, insightful, clueless, or cute -- but back it up with substance. Keep your cool, keep it fun. We only ask that you act respectfully and above all: don't be a troll and ruin it for everyone else. Don't bring down gamers or we'll, you know, gently shoot you in the face and stuff you into a flaming mailbox. Each comment is your opportuntity to make this community awesomer. Is that even a word?
Avoiding the banhammer only requires common sense: spamming, trolling, racism, NSFW stuff, and other forms of sucking will not be tolerated. If anyone is griefing please report abuse. Be good. Don't suck!
Bummer.
Perhaps playing the original re-released on XBLA is honestly the most fun I've had with a shooter in a while due to its arcade-like nature.
@Chocobo Knight - This game looks like it could be special. Hold on to your butt.
Everybody who has played the game Return to Castle Wolfenstein, remember the booklet in the case of the game ? Here are your answers. B.J. Blaskowitz is a real person who fought in World War 2 and is an american born of Polish parents. That explains is name: B= Bill= William. J= Joseph ( not sure about this though ) and Blaskowitz= a Polish name. And I repeat that Wolfenstein is a little town in Austria. They named the castle : Wolfenstein. All that is written in the intructions booklet of the game.
If you translate literally from german to english the name Wolfenstein, here is the translation:
wolfen= wolves and stein= stone
So Wolfenstein means Wolvestone
