I may have confessed to not being a fan of Team ICO's games, but that doesn't mean I can't celebrate its success. The ICO & Shadow of the Colossus Collection has topped the multiplatform sales chart in North America and Japan. Now that's encouraging!
Team ICO's collection actually managed to knock Gears of War 3 from the top of the chart, shunting it to second place. When you consider that neither ICO nor Shadow of the Colossus were particularly successful back in the PS2 era, this is pretty damn impressive.
Things like this let me know that gamers can have more varied tastes than just wanting the next Call of Duty. We talk about original games dying and single-player titles getting forced into extinction, but then something like this happens and you can't help feeling that things are going to be okay. At least for a while.

Destructoid is an open discussion community. You don't need to "audition" to post a comment - just speak your mind. We respect differing opinions on the site, so have at it. Be smart, funny, insightful, clueless, or cute -- but back it up with substance. Keep your cool, keep it fun. We only ask that you act respectfully and above all: don't be a troll and ruin it for everyone else. Don't bring down gamers or we'll, you know, gently shoot you in the face and stuff you into a flaming mailbox. Each comment is your opportuntity to make this community awesomer. Is that even a word?
Avoiding the banhammer only requires common sense: spamming, trolling, racism, NSFW stuff, and other forms of sucking will not be tolerated. If anyone is griefing please report abuse. Be good. Don't suck!
Great news, either way!
Kudos to the Ico team! Now bring us Last Guardian!
I spent $120 on these games; you sure can afford $40.
I'm really glad to see it doing THIS well!
It's nice to know that not all gamers are mindless DudeBro's :D
Dude, your should really get with the times, man.
I knew right there this game wad gonna do well (trust me, for it to be sold out where I live is pretty damn impressive), and I'm happy to see its reaching the AAA status it rightfully deserves.
Fuck you, Ebert.
Ico sold well in the U.S (the creator even said it), and SotC was a greatest Hits title - you have to sell more than a million to get that! People sure do like to think they're in a club that loves some obscure game. Sorry to break it to you, but these games were not obscure when first released. My friends and I all owned Ico.

"Data for "Saling The World" comes courtesy of the public sales information on Amazon.com, Amazon.co.uk, and Amazon.co.jp, with sales split out for each platform and territory, and pre-orders disregarded."
So take that as you may. It's through amazon so a realistic population would be in the thousands, not the millions. Also lacking from the source are raw data, no numbers are given. The charts show relative rankings. So if you want to woop woop, just keep that in mind.
Ironically I'm typing this post from a statistics lecture.

No matter how you look at it,Team ICO still has a reason to party without poop.

Hate to be the language police, but that's not ironic at all.
I bought both Ico and SotC used on the PS2, and bought the PS3 collection new on launch day.
For some reason I had trouble just finding this damn game on Tuesday. Long story short, went to 2 best buys only for them to be sold out and then learned that all best buys in the city were sold out. Gave up and went to wal-mart where they had like 15 copies just sitting there. Victory!
I hope people read the linked article, because this is not a straight "most units sold" ranking. ICO/Shadow sold a fraction of what Gear 3 sold, and by fraction I mean 1/30th. That's no slight on ICO/Shadow, of course, because only a few games will get close to 3 million units at launch.
What this means is that a lot of people are going for the Amazon deal that includes ICO/Shadow. I noticed it yesterday, that ICO/Shadow was number 1 on Amazon, and God of War Origins was in the top 10. It's a real-time slice of what's selling best when the author wrote the report.
And it was good.
So you will not be buying the Halo remake then? Hate for you to be seen as a hypocrite
