I want to go to Where the Wild Things Are photo

Where the Wild Things Are is one of my favorite books from when I was a child. The character of Max speaks to me, as I was always something of the willful sort, and I have a bunch of cool Wild Things stuff (including these awesome Munnys I was given for my birthday last month). I'll admit, I'm not terribly excited for the film, but that's okay. I'll always have the book.

And probably the videogame. Even if it does wind up straying far from the path of the original story, I don't care. The opportunity to interact with even a faded shadow of that world which captivated my imagination as a young child is worth the risk that it winds up being crap.

Speaking of said game, we have a trailer for it and a few screenshots. You may find this -- and your supper1 -- after the jump.

1Naughty children do not get supper. If you do not find supper here, perhaps you should go to your room and think about what you've done.

Too bad to hear, as it was one of my favorite children's books and I am stoked for Spike Jonze's film. I probably won't play the game.

It actually looks pretty cool. Some of those clips where he's just exploring kind of remind me of Ico for some reason.

I was about to write that the trailer didn't really impress me, but then I saw Max hugging the Wild Things.

Awwwwww...

One question: Those weird goopy things won't be in the movie, right? I really hope not...

You should try playing Folklore for the PS3, Conrad. It's got a vibe similar to the Wild Things.

Looks like usual movie tie-in bullshit garbage. The film itself looks awesome and touching, though.

You're looking forward to this but not the movie?

What the fuck is wrong with you?

That actually doesn't look all that bad. It could even be good.

@Y0j1mb0: I just checked out some Folklore vids after reading your comment, now it's at the top of my GameFly queue. Thanks!

/facepalm.

This looks aweful... I'm sorry; both the movie and the game.

Talk about raping one's childhood.

Looks like it could be good. The trailer voice over was a bit annoying/distracting.

@DJP3DRO

The DS game is being made by WayForward; AKA: fucking awesome developers.

but it doesn't stop being a quick cash in, so...

I'm going to go out on a limb and say that this game is going to do nothing but disappoint those of us with fond memories of the children's book.

It'd probably be fine for a kid these days, but it is not for us.

One of my favorite books of all time. Probably rather see the movie than buy the game though.

The movie looks amazing. The game might be good, but I'm doubtful.
