Sick of Mario Kart Wii already? Today, that may change, at least a few minutes. Nintendo has just gone public with their latest online Mario Kart Wii tournament, accessible to anyone with a Wii, the game, and a wireless internet connection.  This is undoubtedly the most worthwhile online Mario Kart Wii tournament yet (the third in an ongoing series), as it features both a new arena and a Mario Kart DS style boss fight against some Spikey Topmen from Super Mario Galaxy

The whole experience feels remarkably like free downloadable content, something Nintendo seems quite fond of lately. If you want in on the cost-free good-times, you better do so this week, as this tournement and all the exclusive content it offers ends June 9th, 2008. After giving it a whirl a few minutes ago, I can say from first hand experience that this event is worth all the time and effort it took to enter (none and none).

There is also a shortage in NZ, but the company I order from online sourced it from ?Germany (it has some crazy germanic type language on the box).

Anyway, I like the game, and the online is strangely compelling.

Way to go Nintendo!
Can't wait to check this out...
Now, if only they would take tha damn timer away from battle mode and have your own items hurt you, we'd really be happy. Right?

So wait, someone clear this up for me please. You can download this stuff for play on your Wii in other modes?

Yeah..what Xdaytime said..after a week is this stuff just gone? Seems kind of ridiculous if it is. What about people who can't login to play the Wii for the week say because they're busy doing work or studys.

Oop, it is 2008, isn't it?

Crap.

And no, this is not DLC, it just feels like it. Basically, you can access this tournament and the unique music, graphics, and gameplay it contains ONLY UNTIL NEXT MONDAY.

I'm guessing all this data is secretly on the Mario Kart Wii disk, but it just can't be used unless Nintendo Wi-Fi tells it to. Hopefully when all the tournaments are over, NoA will unlock all the online tournament data for regular use.

Then again, NoA never did allow for us to legally unlock Super Mario Bros, Legend of Zelda, and Punch-Out!! from Animal Crossing on the GC, or Mew on Pokemone Red and Blue. Worse still, there are tons of levels in Super Mario Advance 4 that we'll never see because they are only unlockable via E-Reader cards which Nintendo never actually producsed.

All this plus the Mother 3 debacle are just a few of the reasons I hate NoA.

Why am I not finding this amazing-sounding content?
When I connect and go to the tournaments tab it just tells me the last one ended and the results have been posted, no other options...
No messages on my message board announcing it, nothing... why have you forsaken me Jonathan Holmes? Why...

I'm in the U.S. btw...
