If you’re one of the few people on the planet who don’t already own a copy of Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare — and if so, you probably either don’t like FPSes or are destitute — then Activision has just the deal for you! They’ve just shipped the Game of the Year Edition for Call of Duty 4, which was one of 2007’s top-selling games. It retails for $59.99 on the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3.
You may be thinking to yourself, “Why should I buy this edition over the original version, especially when I can get the old one for less than $60?” Well, here’s the skinny. Have you heard about the new map pack that just came out on Xbox Live? It costs 800 Microsoft Points (in real money, that’s ten American dollars), but guess what? The GOTY Edition of CoD 4 comes with a “token” to download the map pack (again, it’s a $10 value) for free!
The press release (after the jump) makes no mention of the PS3 version of the GOTY Edition, but if you check out its listing on Amazon.com, it says this: “The Game of the Year Edition includes a code that allows players to download the Variety Map Pack, a $10 value for free on the PlayStation Network.” So presumably, PS3 owners will be able to download the map pack for free when it comes out on the PSN in three weeks.
But there’s another special surprise for Xbox 360 owners who play CoD 4. In conjunction with today’s launch of the map pack, Xbox Live is currently hosting a Double XP Weekend. So from Friday, April 4 through Sunday, April 6, you’ll be able to work toward your next Prestige mode twice as fast! If you’re not already on Xbox Live with the new maps, hopefully you’ll be there during Friday Night Fights. Hop to it! If you don’t buy the GOTY Edition and/or download the map pack, the terrorists win!
CALL OF DUTY 4: MODERN WARFARE GAME OF THE YEAR EDITION HITS RETAIL SHELVES
Xbox LIVE Offers New Maps and Hosts Exclusive Double XP Weekend
Santa Monica, CA – April 4, 2008 – Activision, Inc. (Nasdaq: ATVI) and Infinity Ward are giving gamers a new offensive with the launch of the Call of Duty® 4: Modern Warfare™ Game of the Year Edition. The title allows gamers to experience the intense cinematic action of the original, award-winning and best-selling title, and includes a token for the Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare Variety Map Pack, available now exclusively for download via Xbox LIVE® Marketplace for the Xbox 360® video game and entertainment system from Microsoft.
Exclusively available for Xbox 360 for the next 21 days, the map pack includes “Broadcast,” which features tight corridors and wide open parking lots where large groups utilize close-quarter fighting and strategic maneuvers; “Chinatown,” where night battles well lit by the full moon play havoc against a backdrop of brightly colored lamps, antique shops and neon signs of the local district; “Killhouse,” a desolate warehouse under enemy attack where squads will need to move through building mock-ups and plywood walls in order to full take control of the combat arena; and “Creek,” a large wide-open village in a heavily wooded area where battles are fought between high ridgelines and deep in underground caves.
To celebrate the launch of the Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare Game of the Year Edition and the Variety Map Pack, Xbox LIVE will host a Double XP Weekend. Starting on Friday, April 4 through Sunday, April 6, players can earn twice as many experience points as they play the new maps on the Variety Map Pack specific playlists.
Both the Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare Game of the Year Edition and Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare Variety Map Pack for Xbox 360 are available now in the United States. Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare is rated “M” (Mature) by the ESRB for Intense Violence, Strong Language, Blood and Gore.

If I do ever get this game, it'll be this version. I still don't see how it could be better than Halo 3 online though IMO (not trying to start flamewars).
My bastard friend and I have been racing through XP levels. He leveled one up from me today and was bragging about it. Now I know how he did it. I'll be buying this as soon as I get home, and as soon as XBL is willing.
Great. Now I can't download anything from Xbox because of these stupid maps slowing everything down. Why can't Microsoft properly prepare their servers for this? I gave them some slack for the Xmas rush when it looked like it would only last a few days. Then that turned into weeks.
It would also be fantastic of the damn site to redeem the token would hurry up and allow people to enter in their damn code that came with the GotY version.
The trick is to be persistent and patient. If it gives you an error just keep trying over and over. EVENTUALLY you'll get it to work. This goes for every step of the process (accessing the page, purchasing points, buying the maps, etc). It fucking sucks and it's going to take you a while probably but eventually it works.

Just pulling your leg; I find the best way to experiment with bbcode is to start a hidden blog post then do comments on that. Then you can get an idea for what features Dtoid does and doesn't support.
I had an "wanted" ad on craigslist for a PS3 for several days with a stipulation that I would pay between $250-$300 for a system. I didn't expect any calls but I thought it was worth a shot seeing the ads cost nothing. Welp, I got a call today fom a guy with not only a PS3 but a 60gb version with 2 six-axis controllers and a copy of Call-of-Duty 4. I ended up getting all of it for $260.00
Meh, I bought CoD4 when it was $40 on Amazon. While it hasn't necessarily been a disappointment, I certainly don't see anything that sets it apart from shooters I've been playing for years. It is fun every once in a while though.
did a huge sniperbattle on Creek, that was exhilerating... if everybody is sniping, it just gets so quiet and uncomfortable on that map... with every once and again a loud bang of a sniperrifle being fired... great stuff!
Also chinatown is just great for assaultrifles...
and I love the main-tv-room in broadcast! its insane in there :p
just haven't tried killhouse yet... maybe tonight...
I wish I could find an adapter so i can use the 360 pad because these things feel like utter garbage compare to those. You can't appreciate just how well designed and solid the 360 pads are until you have to use a PS3 pad which feel cheap and the sticks feel very inaccurate, clumsy etc.
@Churchhills Dog: Well, personally, I’ve always loved Sony’s controller design. I prefer their analog sticks to the 360 controller’s (with regards to position, shape, and “feel”). Just personal preference, of course. However, I do think that the feathery-light Sixaxis feels rather like a toy, but really, the DualShock 3 controller completely negates that concern. I don’t have one myself yet — I’m waiting until I can find it for under $50 — but I’ve played some games with it at a friend’s house, and it is awesome.
downloading the map pack as we speak. just bought the GotY version this Wednesday and I'm completely engrossed in its single player. I did a lil MP and got my ass handed to me but It was fun. i just need to get used to the maps and such, theres alot to learn about MP it got some meat to it.

I'm confused. This isn't about sports!
I'm with GuitarAtomik, been trying to download them since about 4 eastern but Live won't let me add points to my account.
If there are now problems with Live, I'm so glad I decided to do this right before I left for work this morning. West Coast FTW!
I'm not overly impressed with the new maps. Killhouse isn't even in rotation.
Check my blog for my recap. :)

Dammit. I can't get the maps. or anything else right now.
Please Microsoft, please fix this.
LOL. Halo 3's been having double XP weekends for a while now. Now COD4's doing it? Competition or just pandering to the XP whores? FILM AT 11.
Check it out.

@Churchills Dog: That is, indeed, one hell of a deal! See if you can trade those Sixaxes in at GameStop toward a DualShock 3, though...
nice score church
Xbl is failing hard.

I haven't gotten it yet just because I had other, higher priorities and was short on money. Hopefully, I'll get to pick up a copy this summer.
Well I got it, and Love the new maps...

I'll let the terrorist takeover the world.
these time related release and game events really make me sore considering all the people (like chee) who don't have an X box working...
There were so many letters in that title that my head exploded!
So uh, I went to Best Buy today. Just browsing, and saw the COD4:MW:GOTY for $60. Ok, neat.
Next to that, was the COD4:MW;RE (Regular Edition)
For $60
Whoo!
