I, GameJew: Karnov and Metroid

2:30 PM on 04.19.2007   |   Gamejew

Hello, Destructoid. I have two videos I want to share with you today.

On top, we have the first episode of An OverAll Mystery. It's a serial surreal romp involving Karnov, the Virign Mary, and lots cheesy voice over.

On the bottom, we have an episode of Blowing The Dust Out of the Cartridge That Is My Mind, in which I plumb the depths of my weird associations to old school games.

Be honest. What do you think?

I thought they were both great. Especially liked how Japanese business men incorporated the womens rights movement into their business model...never made that connection before

First video : Too much Karnov & Zangief crotch.

Second video : Not enough Karnov & Zangief crotch.

Seriously the first video rocked. Nice insight on Metroid.

when half your 3 minute video is just metroid being played to simon and garfunkly I don't think you have a winner. keep trying. You get an E for Effort

Nice job.
I never thought putting two musical legends along to a NES title would make sense.

Being honest, I liked the first vid, but a bit too much voice over and the sound was hard to make out sometimes. Also, a golden opportunity for the virgin mary to say "it's dangerous to go alone, take this" was sorely missed.
Second video, I liked the stream of conciousness style diatribe on metroid and the women's rights movement, but it seemed somewhat lacking in focus, like it should have been either shorter or more fleshed out. Still quite watchable though.

That's really strange. I'm the same way with Super Metroid and The Downward Spiral.

Also, porn and Dragon Force.

I really enjoyed your 2nd video, Simon and G-fizzle, what an idea to turn off the sound and use your own soundtrack. right on, keep on making music

so.... as I'm sure everyone's dying to know Ironic_name, did you watch porn with the music from dragon force, or play Dragon Force while listening to porn? Either way is pretty disturbing

Other possible combinations:

God of War 2 and Carly Simon

Ninja Gaiden:Black and The Partridge Family

Super Mario Brothers and Wagner's The Ring Cycle

GameJew, I really enjoyed the Metroid video. Whatever direction the series goes in for "Blowing The Dust Out of the Cartridge That Is My Mind", as long as it resembles this Metroid video, it will be a favorite of mine.

The first video is fun too, but I would have to see where you're going with it before I decide whether I like it.

Either way, I think you should make at least 2-3 more of each series, just to see how they turn out.

I loved both of them. I really agree with that Simon and Garfunkle soundtrack. Great Analysis. Keep em coming.

Not only are the GameJew videos painful to watch, he smelled like shit at the I Am 8-Bit opening.
Goddamn dude, enough with the overalls and take a shower.
For reals. No, really. You smell like shit.

The first one was cool in a viral video sort of way. It sort of reminded me of a live action adventure game. Like when those crazy kids on youtube do the live action FF battles except with less turn-based combat and more cheesy voiced Karnov & Zangief. The second one was... I dunno... thought provoking?

GameJew, you`re nuts!

I like it:D

Oh, and you should try playing "Alleyway" (GB) while listening to the Tom Jones song "Thunderball".

Now THAT rocks.

@ bonesbridgade: That's only if you want to shell out $6 for song packs of 3.

Great stuff, GameJew. I never really thought about Simon and Garfunkel going together well with Metroid. I do think that some of Imogen Heap's latest music and her work in Frou Frou is suitable for the game as well.

For a few months back in the day, a favourite passtime of mine was muted Final Fantasy 5 + Squarepusher. The pacing of that game, with the random battles and everything, just makes it work soooo well with that music.

The first Turok: Dinosaur Hunter and They Might Be Giants album Apollo 18. I bought them both from the same trip to Best Buy (I lived way in the middle of nowhere and had to save up my nerd purchases.) To this day, I swear one of the tracks of "Fingertips" is "I am Turok!"

The first game was good, seriously, I swear.

Sound of Silence does go really well with Metroid. Who'da thunk?

And your hands should have come away burned when you tried to get into the church. :)

Good stuff, look forward to the continuing adventures of An OverAll Mystery.

Gamejew, question:

If you could recommend ANYTHING at all (movie, music, whatever) during a trip to the Mushroom Kingdom, what would it be?

Huge fan of your creations, keep up the great work!

GameJew's the most soulful game reporter out there.
Really liked the Metroid one.

He left so much time with just S&G over Metroid so you can get what he's talking about.

The first one was fun too, but some of the sound could use leveling, I couldn't understand what Virgin Mary or Karnov were saying.

Love your Destructoid vid and your other music. You in a band or anything?
