First off, I know its been a while since I've posted something on the 'toid but I'm back and hopefully this will add to my argumentative legacy. Me and my buddy who I will refer to as "jackass" for the rest of this post had an argument the other day with regards to, well you guessed it, video games. It ranged from coolest Atari cover boxes to Neo Geo to who in the world could possibly be cast as Dante in the upcoming
Devil May Cry movie to finally, "best video games ever". (Start Side Tangent: You know, I will explore the Dante article really soon so don't fret. : End Side Tangent) Keep reading after the jump!
We were going back and forth, yelling at times, defending our opinions. Picture Al Pacino vs. Al Pacino and you'll get a good grasp of the setting. I threw down Vice City, he threw down MGS. I would say Super Mario 3 and he'd retort with Devil May Cry. This went on for like a good twenty minutes until we decided that maybe we should include stipulations as to what "best video game ever" really meant. So we dissected the stipulations as the following:
The game must be fun in true absolute form from beginning to end.
The game cannot include MMORPGs because a game that never ends can only cause you to be addicted. Thus leaving you with a very natural "there must be an end to this crap" feeling. Though, crack addicts would completely disagree.
The game must have a character that both debaters wish they could become in real life. You know the ol' "Damn if I was this guy I would be kicking some serious ass."
The game must have a minimum of 9.0 on GameSpot's READER reviews, since their editor reviews are consisted of cat poo!
We left it pretty simple because arguing stipulations for hours while drunk is a tremendous buzz-kill.
I listed my games and he listed his which of course caused all hell to break loose. Those of you who know me from DV know that I won't sit here and create a list because I despise them. But, that doesn't mean I won't tell you what #1 was on both of our lists. I chose God of War and my buddy "jackass" chose Grand Theft Auto: Vice City.
Now let me take the time to go into further detail as to what this argument consisted of: Cut downs dealing with Kid Icarus, 37 yo mama jokes and an arm wrestling match where the both of us had to wear the NES Power Glove. Completely dorky, yet necessary to end this 3 hour debate.
I had no qualms with his choice of Vice City, I just couldn't believe the number of games he put in front of God of War. A game with so much blood, amazing score, compelling effects, and a character who's skin is made of the ash of his family while wielding grafted chain-swords says one thing: BEST EVER. If there is anything I know in life, its two things. Jack Bauer is God and Kratos is his son. So tell me folks, what is the "best video game ever" in your opinion.
