I bet you want to give free indie game The Wager a try photo

Indie dev Surprised Man created its game The Wager as part of the 72-hour Ludum Dare game jam in December, and has since been expanding on it for an official release.

It's an exploration game in which you explore islands in the open sea with a ship, which translates some of the magic that Colonization used to give you at the start of every game. It also has some great -- and very British -- writing.

As you explore islands, you go on text-based adventures while managing your supplies. It's great fun and can easily eat away hours of your time once you get into it. Old community member SurplusGamer, who is now a writer at Nukezilla, is half of Surprised Man's team and The Wager is free, so go download it here!

Hi folks. Thanks very much for the mention!

I thought I should say that despite our best efforts to increase bandwidth our hosting is getting HAMMERED at the moment because of all the attention, and we're trying to find better places to put the file. In the meantime, consider following us on Twitter at @SurprisedMan and if we do go down we'll keep you updated.

Downloaded and playing right now... I like it so far! It would be rad if you could choose your crew members though instead of having them randomly assigned.

Destructoid is an open discussion community. You don't need to "audition" to post a comment - just speak your mind. We respect differing opinions on the site, so have at it. Be smart, funny, insightful, clueless, or cute -- but back it up with substance. Keep your cool, keep it fun. We only ask that you act respectfully and above all: don't be a troll and ruin it for everyone else. Don't bring down gamers or we'll, you know, gently shoot you in the face and stuff you into a flaming mailbox. Each comment is your opportuntity to make this community awesomer. Is that even a word?

Avoiding the banhammer only requires common sense: spamming, trolling, racism, NSFW stuff, and other forms of sucking will not be tolerated. If anyone is griefing please report abuse. Be good. Don't suck!
