Fuck Microsoft and its nazi leader, Bill "i like to kill africans" Gates.
The voice/motion commands for navigation work fine... but there is a unavoidable lag and it really is just much easier to use a controller when navigating the UI.
I should have bought Sony's move controller... it's an option in many shooter games and from what I understand it can be hella fun turning many shooter games into the equivalent of a light gun shooter. It also simply "works".... something Kinect seems to have major issues with.
I hope they continue working on the tech... I do think it has potential, but I also think they pushed it to market far too soon (and they pushed it MUCH too hard)
Despite all the gimmicky motion controls this gen the WiiU's pad actually has me quite hyped up as it seems to take the limitations of a std pad and improves on them. I'm sure we will still see games that make use of its motion controls just for the sake of marketing but it won't be anywhere are bad as this gen
Pretty screwy math.
1. The Gunstringer
2. Diabolical Pitch
3. Haunt
4. Sesame Street: Once Upon a Monster
5. Fruit Ninja Kinect
6. Double Fine Happy Action Theater
7. Dance Central
8. Dance Central 2
9. Kinect Sports
10. Kinect Sports Season 2
11. Rise of Nightmares
And soon 12. Crimson Dragon (Panzer Dragoon spiritual successor)
I have a Move. I've enjoyed a few games, but it's yet to get that one really good one. Sorcery was supposed to be the one, but that tanked.
Both the Wii and MS have failed miserably in the motion control front.
For gaming, Kinect is there as a supplemental controller which I think it has amazing potential for if developers are familiar with the kit and go whole hog on implementing it. For Ghost Recon: FS, Instead of half-assing it with stupid gimmicks like Gunsmith. They should have done something interesting with the tac-map using Kinect.
For what Microsoft's big picture vision:
Microsoft is looking to make the Xbox a all-in-one media hub in the future, and Kinect is the way you'll interface with it. Most Non-gamers are still intimidated by controllers with lots of buttons, but if they can streamline it using voice commands, or solidly designed "Kinect" like controls, then it'll be much easier for them.
I'm glad I never bought a Kinect.
However with those few games aside (gunstringer will be included in said games) the Kinect is an utter failure/dissapointment.
@MuddBstrd: I'm willing to give the future stuff a look at the very least. Obviously if there's not much different than I'll have the same feelings as I do now about the device.
@y inverted: Glad someone understood the reference.
...
I REALLY wish it wasn't.
As I understand it though, the extant dance and exercise stuff mostly works pretty well, as do the kids' games and stuff like that happy action theater. Anyone who thought that you'd be controlling action gameplay like FPS directly is either gullible or retarded. Kinect really isn't marketed at people like me, so I don't get mad at it.
It's shit for games, though, that seems for sure.
Hamza is it really necessary for you to announce that you're denouncing a hardware device, as if you're leaving the country?
It's really not the device's fault. Even in its current state it can do things like mouth tracking and advanced appendage tracking, which Microsoft claims will only be possible in the next generation of the hardware. That's a lie. The reason the software can't do it now is because developers are lazy and companies don't know how to implement it properly.
I am sure it has its uses somewhere, but it can stay the hell away from my games.
Actually, think about that for a second, even since its inception professional circus mimes couldn’t even pretend to make Kinect look like it worked, that’s kind of mind blowing.
I don't have a kinect, don't ever plant to own one but I know people who do enjoy it.
Get over yourselves you 'master race' dweebs!
I don't know what you are talking about, the user reviews on Gamestop.com are pretty mixed. And look at it on Metacritic:
Metacritic Score: 41
Metacritic User Score: 2.2
Even the "Official" Xbox Magazines only gave it a 70 and 75. Everywhere else gave it a 60 or below. So Hamza isn't exactly alone in his assessment of the game.

Seriously Dale, everyone is entitled to their own opinions, but taking an entire post to opine about the fact that you finally figured out something so obvious comes across a little narcissistic - for lack of a better term.
The concept was flawed from the start. Motion controls don't work by themselves. That's why the Wii and Move have controls, d-pad, analogs and buttons, on them, and why we haven't seen a good "core" game for the Kinect.
Kinect sold pretty well, though, due to its novelty and having good casual, family and party games made for it.
I do hope more people figure it out. We can't just have Harmonix, Double Fine and Twisted Pixel. Although if it means TP starts making non-Kinect games again I'm okay with that.
