I Am Alive released in 2011?

I Am Alive released in 2011? photo

I Am Alive is starting to whiff a little of Sadness or Duke Nukem Forever, considering the fact that very little has been seen of it since launch. According to Darkworks senior game designer Charles Gaudron, we might not be seeing anything for quite some time yet, with his Linkedin profile listing the title for 2011.

Darkworks had development of I Am Alive yanked from their hands a while ago, with Ubisoft transporting the game over to its Shanghai studio. This makes Gaudron's reliability unclear. We do know that Ubisoft has stated that I Am Alive will arrive during its next fiscal year, which runs from April 1 2010 to March 31 2011, so it could certainly come during the time Gaudron lists.

I Am Alive's troubled development doesn't fill me with much enthusiasm for the game. Handed off to more than one studio, pushed back, and barely anything to show for it. Does not sound like this game is going well.

Jade Raymond used to be behind it, but now it seems like she be a little bit camera shy after all the Assassin's Creed fallout.

When I saw the trailer for it I got kinda excited. I think I would enjoy this game but right now its looking like a catastrophe.

Here's what I gather:

First I hate Ubisoft Shaghai. Love Ubi, not so much their Shanghai studio. So that already frightens me. It tells me they just want this game made and made on the cheap.

However I can't help but wonder maybe this disaster game concept is actually worth clinging hope to. It's interesting that instead of pulling the plug on the game Ubi pulled the developer. I guess that tells me this game is either expensive or a worthy investment. In both cases I'm still mildly intrigued.

Plus, I like the name.

I don't know about this I am Alive crap, but lumping Duke Nukem Forever in with a non-game like "Sadness" is absurd. At least DNF actually had a developer and was actually being made.

Damn, I was really excited about this after seeing that trailer. I was excited for Sadness too. Sigh.

It could be waiting to release closer to 2012 when everyone will be hyped with that apocalypse shit.

This game looks pretty original. I hope it sees daylight.

I'd been in a focus group for I Am Alive and it looked boring for essentially everyone in the room at the table, if my memory serves me correctly. The game was essentially 'sold' to us as a disaster relief effort in earthquake-ridden Chicago. The focus wasn't to hunt for rations and survive ala Fallout 3, it was to give water to the needy, tend to wounds, help people survive.

Again, it didn't go over so well.
