Hydrophobia gets a countdown, more info at PAX East photo

I could have sworn we had covered Hydrophobia a few times before, but alas, Google cannot tell a lie. Kind of a bummer, because the game sounds intriguing as all heck. To quickly recap, the world is flooded, and you control an engineer aboard a city-sized ship that's being forcibly taken by terrorists.

Also, the character you play as, Kate, is afraid of water -- hence the title. Equally interesting is how Hydrophobia will be presented: it's getting an episodic release for Xbox 360 through Xbox LIVE Marketplace; not something you see happen every day.

Anyway, the official Web site for the game has a countdown that's set to end next week. To be more specific, Hydrophobia -- at least in some form -- will be present at PAX East. Either way, we can likely expect to get the first update in a long time. I was really started to worry about this title for a while there.

I am absolutely positive you guys have covered this game before. I think it may have even been Jim who posted their latest tech demo. It was a good few months ago though.

For anyone who doesn't know, this game totes the most versatile and functional fluid simulation technology in any game made so far. It features water that collects, pools, ripples, waves, splashes and interacts with every surface and object in the game world. This isn't "fake" water like Bioshock, this is real simulated water that acts dynamically to it's surroundings.

That, and the unique story, are enough to make me buy it.

I would definately get this if it came to the PS3 out of sheer respect for a great concept.

Wasn't hydrophobia also the old-fashioned term for rabies? I'd buy a game with a rabies-based premise!

I remember hearing about this a year or so ago, but I'm not sure if it was here or elsewhere on the net.

Definitely looking forward to it.

I don't think I've played a drowning simulator before. This could be good. Albeit, maybe a little freaky.

I remember reading about this game prior to the 360 being released in PSM (Future fag, I know). This is the first time I've heard of it in ages, and now it's an episodic release, exclusive to the 360? WAT? Too bad, I was... well, interested isn't the word I'd use here. This was a game I might have wanted to play five years ago and I'm surprised to see it in its new form. Uh, yeah.

Aww, fuckin'...

This sounds awesome. Just watched the tech demo video they did awhile ago, and the water physics look stunning. The concept is indeed intriguing, but I can't help but have part of me think that everything else in the game will suffer because of it. We'll have to see what happens when that countdown hits 00:00:00.

@ Cough - The coding for that page has all kinds of weird stuff hidden in it, including a reference to this Youtube channel. Haven't figured out the password for the main site, though.

That's some freaky shit right there. It's also one odd reference to GoW... Makes me feel like doing some catchin' up with the good ol' Care Bears. *grips Lionheart*
