[Hey everybody! I want to introduce you to Holly Green. She's a seasoned pro at this videogame blogging gig (4+ years and counting) as well as an old friend. Before long, I think you'll find yourself enamored with her wit and insights just as I am. Please welcome her with a warm "how do you do?" and as many animated gifs of Doctor Doom as you can rustle up- J. Holmes]
We would like to... watch Hulu Plus on the Wii? Um, no, not really. All the same, now you can. The subscription-based TV streaming service, previously promised as an end-of-2011 release on the Wii, is available for download.
Users will have to pay the monthly Hulu Plus fee of $7.99 for the content, but like the Xbox 360 deal of last year, those who sign up through their console will get a two-week free trial. Head over to your Wii now to begin the process of watching beautiful HD television downgraded to garbage through the magic of your six-year-old Nintendo console.

Destructoid is an open discussion community. You don't need to "audition" to post a comment - just speak your mind. We respect differing opinions on the site, so have at it. Be smart, funny, insightful, clueless, or cute -- but back it up with substance. Keep your cool, keep it fun. We only ask that you act respectfully and above all: don't be a troll and ruin it for everyone else. Don't bring down gamers or we'll, you know, gently shoot you in the face and stuff you into a flaming mailbox. Each comment is your opportuntity to make this community awesomer. Is that even a word?
Avoiding the banhammer only requires common sense: spamming, trolling, racism, NSFW stuff, and other forms of sucking will not be tolerated. If anyone is griefing please report abuse. Be good. Don't suck!
Welcome to Dtoid!
But as Dtoids most popular commenter, welcome, and what a very boring article you was tasked with haha
Oh and i love you holmes, just so you know.
welcome!
Unfortunately, we already have a Jim Sterling here.
WHY DO I LAUGH AT THE STUPIDEST THINGS
PS - I fuck donkeys.
Was Jim fired or something?
Wait...
Welcome to dtoid! It's dangerous to go alone. I lost the gun so take this rusty steel pipe with you as it is quite effective against trolls.
But in any case, welcome to DToid!
480p isn't "bad" per se -- that's exaggerated. It's just not nearly as good as 1080.
As for your Samsung box -- it's either broken, or the quality buffer has been lowered somehow, or your TV isn't outputting 1080 correctly. You should notice a giant difference.
And welcome holls. Please please PLEASE don't do shitty feminism articles though. Please? With a cherry on top?
LOOPS HAGAAN DAAZ.
Here's the thing about streaming HD content: it's not as good as it would be if you were watching a physical Blu-ray. Any time you stream, you are getting artifacts, noise, and any number of hiccups, and for me, an HD stream that contains all that doesn't really look all that better than a standard stream. Because I'm expecting a higher-quality feed, the disparity between my expectations and what I actually see is that much greater, so I don't enjoy it as much.
That's not even touching upon the fact that not everything on Netflix is available in HD, much less that a lot of movies just flat-out have shitty HD transfers.
Hmmm...weird. I have an entirely different experience on 360 with 1080p -- shrug. I notice it pretty clearly, and I have a Wii and 360 hooked up to the same 46" TV. I guess you're lucky you don't notice? I can't go back!
And yea, Netflix isn't always above 480 - but Hulu is.
Actually my next article is entitled Feminism: A History
sorry :\
I would really like to post this picture of Doctor Doom and puppies.

Wait that came out wrong I meant to say Welcome.
thank you for posting back to back and subsiding my rage as soon as you ignited it. and then igniting it again with a dance central article.
i'm a passionate man.
No Sophie Prell hate please.
Welcome, Ms. Green.
You could have done with a better topic to start with, hopefully you'll get some cooler shit to write about real soon!
You can actually! But you have to do a workaround.
You can't "officially" do it by going to www.hulu.com in your Wii's web browser -- Hulu blocks this due to licensing issues, and the fact that they want you to buy Hulu Plus.
You have to use a media server of sorts to "trick" Hulu into think your Wii is a PC. PlayOn is a good option (but it costs money).
Personally, I love using it, because while Hulu Plus is great, you're going to run into "web only" TV shows that don't work officially on the Hulu Plus application (like Community, or 30 Rock) -- even if you have a subscription. This media center workaround is great for this, because I can watch it anyway. If you don't have a nearby PC to use as a media center, you're kind of out of luck. A direct Ethernet connection works best for streaming, by the way.
Good luck!
If you only have a Wii, and you want to watch Hulu web-based shows on TV, it is your only option. Either you watch it in SD on your Wii on your TV, or you don't watch it on your TV.
A lot of people refuse to get a 360 or PS3 for some reason.
My, what ever do you mean? No one said anything about lil ol Sophie til you did just now.
I was just asking Holly not to write contrived feminism articles.
Just remember that sometimes we post stuff not because we think it's the most important news in the world, but because we want Destructoid to be as well covered and informed as possible.
:)
