Hudson's Tower of Shadow looks amazing, reminds of Ico photo

Hudson Japan's teaser page for Kagenotou doesn't give us much to go on. We know it's a Wii game, something Hudson calls a "shadow action adventure" in their link text.

It seems that the shadow of a boy is trying to ascend a tower. He tries only to interact with shadows, working to walk only on the shadows that objects cast. He'll even interact with shadows of items to control their real-life counterparts. A partner butterfly will help the shadow boy in his journey up the tower, assisting with light/shadow control.

Poking around the teaser page, we saw a few screenshots. You have to really look for the boy, as he's actually part of the shadows, and not in the foreground. There's also a grayed out link for a trailer, which we're sure will come soon. We noticed that you can control the butterfly with your mouse, and if you click on the shadow boy, he'll jump.

There's no release date or other details on this Tower of Shadow yet, but it definitely looks like something I'd play. What about you?

In before a clever joke about how the Wii can handle the shadows of the 3D model, but not the model itself...

Oh I'm definitely interested though.

Uh, sounds pretty gimmicky. I mean from those pictures, it looks like your average platformer except instead of playing as a real person with real traps, you play as a shadow person with shadow traps.

It's Hudson and that means this game will be at either end of the spectrum, so I'm cautiously optimistic.

I like this. A Wii game where "art direction" doesn't mean "cel shaded so we can get away from proper textures".

This game looks like nothing more than a SHADOW of Sony Japan's awesome games.

Seriously though, it looks like they took some of the level design directly out of ico and SotC and then made a platformer out of the shadow.

Interesting, nonetheless.

"I havent played a Wii game since i sold my lovely but boring white box"

Well it would be pretty hard to play a Wii game without actually having the system anymore to play it on, wouldn't it? Anyway, back on topic. This game looks really interesting, it makes me wish that I had a Wii to play it on!

Looks really cool. People can call it a gimmick or just a platformer, but films are just a series of frames and games are just binary code.

I'll need more information before this really starts to interest me. A lot of stuff sells better or worse on paper than it actually is.

@Crabman

Strangely the forced cel shading is one of the things I love about the thing. There's nothing wrong with a bit more colour in games.

I gotta love when people criticize Wii graphics comparing them to older systems like the PS2 and PSX or what ever, and not even realizing the standard graphics quality of those older consoles.

That being said, more games need to look like TF2 and The Wind Waker.

I thought it sounded cool at first, but then I watched the video and was just kind of shocked at the possibilities. There's so much more puzzle to it than it seems. I'll put this game on my watchlist.
