How would you perfect Xbox Live? photo

When Xbox Live first came into existence, it was far from perfect. But nowadays, it's one of the most useful gaming-related services that money can buy. Do you know how XBL was able to evolve from a deformed vending machine into a sexy robot? Because people complained, that's why!

The time has come for you to offer your thoughts on how you would improve Xbox Live. I for one would like a unified clan system for big multiplayer games such as Gears of War or Halo 3. Think of how convenient it would be to spam everyone in your clan with one game invite rather than sending them out individually. Can you guys come up with any other features that Xbox Live is missing?

Or less. But because it is a paid service which made it better over time. They should regulate micro-transaction downloads and actually give us better content instead of making us pay to unlock something that came with a copy of a game that I ALREADY PAID FOR.

MORE MORE MORE new games. Games like Cloning Clyde, 2D plaformers. Not just simple puzzle games that have been on PC for ages. I mean where is the fulfilled promise of new indie games. Where are the risks, the innovative small titles.
The lack of new games on XBLA does not bode well for originality and creativity for gaming.I mean if you can't even get alot of risk and opriginality on the most cost effective platform, where else is it going to happen?

Now i am usually against the whole console web browser thing, but i'd say throw a little web browser in and then ive also always wanted the ability to create my own blades themes and trim... not just buy them.

A built in "Group" system, where you can place specific friends in specific groups. This allows you to invite all the friends in a specifc group at one time.

This would also help build the possibility of a group chat out-of-game. Maybe model it around Ventrillo, so X-Box live can be more then just a place to play games, but just a place to hang out too.

More specific "Game Playing" information, such as what level a person is currently playing. I'd love to be able to message a friend saying, "Hey that fucking level is HARSH! Wanna co-op it?"

Also more naked women.

Make sure that microtransactions on Xbox Live are actually for new content and not just unlocking pieces of a game that i already paid for.

Smaller demo size. Downloading 700 megs of something that's going to take me less than 30 minutes to get through is a bit annoying.

biggest gripe is one gamertag per account. i share an xbox, share the tv, and share the gamertag. don't always like my brother diggin thru my messages, and why should we have to pay for the same service 2x?

also points should be replaced with actual currency for xbla and marketplace purchases.

gamer homepages and search functionality for new friends (some form of social aspect, doesn't have to be too deep) would be cool.

@5lectro - As much as i would like demos to DL faster as well, i don't think it's gonna happen unless you want to see the opening cinematic of the game and not get to play. At least with xbox360 you can do other stuff while the demo is downloading, unlike my counter-console, ps3, you cant even scratch your nuts when its downloading or else it cancels.

Slap more ads in it then a failing magazine and then bring that price down. I don't care if I see an ad every time I log on, if a gold membership was 20 bucks I might even purchase a product or two.

Mmm Consumer Prostitution.

@galagabug-what do you mean? you have 1 gamertag and you paid for it twice? I don't get it. I used to share my friends XBox and that's when I started the Myl0r acct, and his acct on his xbox was lumberjacksmack, but we had 2 seperate gamertags on 1 xbox, so we had to pay 2 times.

I agree with the party system. Oh yea, and make Goldeneye on XBLM already. and I liked galagabug's idea of a social network type thing.

I think price is fine, but I sure wouldn't complain if it came down to $35-40. I think much less than $30 would negate what the price point set out to do in the first place

Ability to have more friends on your list. A Clan system would be fucking tight. If they could either do it as a whole LIVE clan or break it up into specific clans for different games. Then they could just add the clan tag on the front of you gamertag for whatever game you are playing or something sweet like that.

Crossplay between xbox and Vista users. At least on arcade games, halo 3 and Gears players would have a huge advantage if those games ever come out on PC.

Slowly start making some older Arcade games free. If the sales slow down and they are older plop them for free or make them cheaper. Some of the games that have been around for a while. I will never pay $5 for Gauntlet, but for $1 i would.

- Give Microsoft points out when purchasing games.
- Give Gold account time for buying new games (or buying extra MS points)
- Make purchasable movies, not just rentable
- Better filter/search options for browsing download-able content (at least mark things that I've already downloaded before I specifically select it)

those are things we need more within the next year. but 5 years from now?

They need to completely integrate the LIVE everywhere and their Zune store into one. Make it so you have one account. You can download music and movies on your PC, Zune, or console as long as you have internet. Offer the videos in resolutions for each system. Make it so you can just pay once and you can download it whenever you want. Have a list of purchased music and movies that you can go to at anytime and redownload them.

same thing with Arcade games. be able to download those games whether you are on your PC or console. And some of the games on the Zune as well once they get that rolling. I think integrating into one account is the best thing possible. I would fucking love that.

And notice i said console and not 360.

This one is easy. They need to make a group chat feature in Xbox Live. Where you can chat with a group of friends when you aren't playing in the game.

Right now, if you aren't playing a game, you can only have one on one chat. Which makes it a real pain if you are trying to get 4 friends together for a game. It took me all night to realize that trying to fiddle with a thousand menus before I realize you couldn't do it.

Second, they need to dramatically improve the voice quality. It sounds like someone talking with a bunch of marbles in his mouth. Such programs like Skype and Ventrillo have voice chat down to perfection that it sounds better than cellphone quality. No reason why this can't happen on Xbox Live.

Namelessted's Avatar - Comment posted on 01/16/2007 19:10

yeah, there is a lot of room for improvement on the audio quality in the voice chat. No reason not to have better than it is. Especially in games like UNO and texas hold'em. I can sort of understand that in stuff like Gears they want the bandwidth for the game, but understanding what the person is saying is important.

@namelessted-while I am not complaining with the quality of audio on GoW(disregarding lag issues), clear audio is important on that game as well, being such a team based game. Although, with the direction of the last patch in regards to team play, I wouldn't be surprised if they disabled audio in the game altogether...

You ever been in a gears lobby for a really long time waiting for some people to join. Well i'd fix this by integrating a web browser into the guide blade. Just hit the guide button and select browser option, making the guide blade come out all the way with a browser window in it. Then when your match is about to start have the blade descend all the way back but saving your page.

How about just blocking certain downloadable content altogether.. I don't mean additional maps and such, I mean for games like The Godfather where you can buy something like $250,000 game dollars.. Cheats are cheats, we shouldn't have to pay for them so just block developers from doing shit like that.

Actually, how about making previews for gamer pictures and themes.. As it is now you have to go online to a website and see what it looks like. Makes no sense to have these themes and pictures for sale but not show you what they look like until after you buy them.

-microsoft points when you get all 1000 achievment points in a game or maybe 10,000 achievment points overall
-make microsoft points real money. Instead of something being 200 microsoft points make it actually say $3 or $4

Not that I buy them, but I never understood the gamer pictures and the themes. I don't think you should be able to buy those. They should be included on the game disks. You buy Gears of War, you get the gamer pics and the themes. You buy Dead Rising, etc. That way you can show that you bought the game and play it, instead of blowing 75 cents to look cool. Not to mention companies should not get money for shit like that.

Basically what a lot of you already said:

-More than 1 Gamertag to an account.
I'm tired of all of my GF's buddies calling me away from GOW to play Texas Hold 'em and she feels the same in reverse.
-Get rid of the MS point system
It's a rip-off and they know it.
-Group Chat and/or Unified Clan system
It would just make organizing friends so much easier.
-Preview of Gamer Pics/Themes
I don't buy them mostly because I have no idea what I'm buying.

and one from me

-Let me access Active DLs from anywhere
It's kind of a pain to have to go all the way back to the Marketplace to check on my large down loads. Minor I know but it'd be nice.

engineer C4 into the headsets. You are allowed to speak for only a certain set amount of time. Go over that time and your heads pops off like a Pez dispenser. Kids 13 and under also get a volume governor.

I would like to also see a group chat. that would be very useful in many games when only a small amount of your friends are in a game on opposite teams but more then 1.

and the preview of the gamertags would be useful on the xbox. they have it on the website, but i don't want to always go on the website to check.
