It's been a long road for Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles: The Crystal Bearers, but despite rumors of cancellation and years of development (or stagnation) the game will be coming to a Wii near you as the E3 trailer proved. The game looks great, but over the years we've heard relatively little about it. With the listed Dec. 31 release date quickly approaching Square Enix has decided to let lose by showing off a bit more gameplay (that will hopefully improve on the series' seriously flawed mechanics).
The Japanese gameplay video below shows off the many uses of Layle's magical ability to grab onto things using something like a telekinetic force. It seems to be used for some Bionic Commando style swinging and some Wii Remote point-and-throw action, but more importantly you get to pick up enemies and use their powers for yourself. It's like Kirby except here you get to see your enemies twist and writhe in agony as you abuse their bodies for your own means. Well, that's how I want to interpret it.
If you'd like to catch up on everything to do with Crystal Bearers, the official site has a crap ton of gameplay videos showing off everything from fighting to the game's Okami looking emotion status gameplay that the game is featuring.

Fucking Final Fantasy as it's never ending use of "crystals". I know SE likes to use quite a few reoccurring elements in all of their games but I am so sick to death of fucking crystals.
All I wanted was more of the Gamecube title, it is one of my favorite games of all time. This doesn't seem to be much like it at all. Everyone I talk to who knew of the first game is a fervent supporter of its mechanics, if not their implementation. Why not build on that with the wider Wii audience instead of taking this very different path?
I cant help but think that this is going to be another one of those Wii games that shows promise but ultimately ends up falling short of its initial concept. It sounds good, but I don't think there'll be an Okami-like adventure to be had here. The little information we know about it before its soon-to-be release is always dubious.
I totally agree with you on this one. I've played the other Cystal Chronicle games and I have to say... I never proceeded past 30 min... on any of them.
Every time I see this game I am more and more confused by it. What the hell is going on? For all the trailers I've watched I don't have a fuckin' clue what Crystal Bearers is actually about.
Whatever it is, it looks like they've mashed a slew of interesting mechanics together, so I really hope it makes sense by release day.
I want this game to be good, but of course I know it'll only dissapoint. The main character's voice seems like it would get very annoying very fast, something I'm sure will only get brilliantly worse with localisation.
Damm, looking really nice. It should really give a breath of fresh air to the franchise, as we'll see familiar enemy faces being used as real time weapons. Could turn out to be a little too scripted and boundary-ridden, but who knows. The setting, however, is bothering me. I really REALLY liked the first Chrystal Chronicles art direction. The game was great, but it wasn't easy finding 3 Gameboy Advance and 3 Gameboy Cables. Gameplay was somewhat limited and repetitive, but I loved it so much I didn't really care. Fours Swords Adventure was a better party game, but this one was just gorgeous. I don't know if I dig this steampunk style. To me, Final Fantasy settings kind of went downhill from VI. They obviously needed to reboot and create a new identity, it just doesn't strike me the right way.
By the way, the camera looks very messy.
And the Wii version of the most recent DS one looked so awful in my big screen I almost puked. You know there's something wrong when you're playing a Wii title that makes you miss Turok's graphics. Unfortunately, it happens a lot in the world of shovelware. But I did get a bang for my buck, I'll admit it.

Shit is fugly, at least the "Crystal Bearers" part of it.
Take the names and the more familiar monsters and you could confuse with any third person platformer

Oh, I wasn't singling you out. The first few comments just seemed like everyone hated everything about the game. :P
Oh, this game, right. I think it looks decent if not different from the previous ones. I don't even know if it's multiplayer.....
Too bad I don't own a wii...

So far, it looks like it might pull it off.
