Can't wait to try it out
* I'm waiting patiently to see if this is going have a "bash Christians" angle, or a "religious zealot" angle only. It's obviously already not for the squeamish but I'm not necessarily precluded from buying it yet. Here's hoping McMillen doesn't return to his roots completely...
And overall I hope it works for them. They're great game makers and do pretty awesome things with both style and gameplay, and they deserve to have all the success in the world. I would just really hate to see the themes they choose to use in this one, cloud over how great the game would be for more conservative players
I also noticed the boss health bar looks almost identical to the boss health bar in Alien Hominid.
I wonder if that was intentional, or a coincidence
You were looking forward to a roguelike ("this game"), but you are calling the developer a dipshit for retaining one of the defining factors of a roguelike? Were you just looking forward to the graphics and the music or something? Sort yourself out.
To those of you who haven't played a roguelike with permadeath DoD is a great place to start and it costs only 6$ on steam. Try it you might like it!
BAM! My thoughts exactly. Why put permadeath in a roguelike? I mean Christ, might as well put guns in a first person shooter, or cars in a racing game. Such a stupid design decision holding a good looking game back.
i know i am jumping to a lot of conclusions here.. i just hope i can continue to respect Edmund as a game designer since i have been a big fan before SMB.. and if i am right and this is what is going on with The Binding Of Isaac.. well.... i wont be purchasing anymore of Edmunds games.. not because of the possible religious stuff in the game.. but just because of the way he may be deciding to make his games basically as really lame attempts at approaching social issues in such a way that is "edgy" but its not edgy its just lazy. and is possibly just a scheme to get press to sell his game..ugh,, its like marilyn manson..luckily people with this type of "shock&controversial" scheme lose popularity rather quickly and fade away..
I mean its not a terrible idea to market or draw attention to your game by using social issues.. and its not a terrible way to make a game either that focuses on a specific social issue..actually its a good idea.. so i give Edmund credit for trying..(if that is really what he is attempting to do) but.... if you use a social issue in your game it shouldn't be used as a cheap tool to sell a game or get press.. or to be "edgy" either.. i just hope he will be tasteful about how he approaches the game and not like an immature kid in middle school.. since it would be cheap, distasteful and the most uncreative lazy brained thing i have ever heard of..
I just hope he paid attention to jonathan blow's design reboot lecture...
All i have to say is Edmund better have made The Binding Of Isaac in an intelligent way.. i hope this game does not turn out to be what people on here seem to think it will be.. as far as religious fanaticism is concerned...and i hope the game will not be pro-atheist since that would be atheist fanaticism and would just be hypocritical.. it just seems like it could easily be a cheap stunt to get attention, press & purchases.. which is pretty low and tasteless.. its not edgy its not creative.. its just.. lame.. and it would actually be worse than most other marketing schemes.. and i really would like to not think less of Edmund since I always thought he was cool and intelligent.. I will wait to play the Zelda version of the book/movie Carrie and really hope i am wrong about all i have said...
The game is an escapist ego trip for Isaac and it’s only happening in his head or in a nightmare.
Think about it; not only is the goal of the game for Isaac to escape a basement dungeon filled with twisted versions of himself in order to kill his Christian mom with his tears, but all 4 classes are versions of Isaac and he gains anti-Christian/satanic tools as powerups.
It wouldn’t surprise me if the ending is him waking up and his mom taking him to church.
Would certainly make all the inevitably controversy look pretty silly when it turns out to be a dream sequence. The kid just hates going to church and his mom's shitty sandwiches!
