So wait... you had enough memory to download the full game, but not to actually install it? Did I read that wrong? And if not, then what's the difference between downloading and installing?
Don't worry Jim, I have a 40 GB PS3 and the lack of space due to mandatory installs has forced me to lock it in a closet where it will sit collecting dust until Uncharted comes out. Honestly, the ease of use that xbox live provides is worth $60 alone.
Yeah, I've not had any of these problems. I bought it on the PS3 because it was £6 for a bit.
After having a 360 for years I got a PS3 and the downloads don't seem all that different. Maybe the service is better in the UK/Europe.

Why is an adult buying a psn card? I think step one should be getting a bank account with a debit card. How the hell does destructoid pay you? That's what happens when you stick to 6 year old tech. PC ftw until they release the PS4/x720. My ps3 now rests in the attic.
I'm not sure I understand what you're trying to say with this article Jim. I mean, unless you were a completely ignorant moron completely incapable of understanding basic common sense, downloading games online is really quite easy. I mean hell, just look at services like XBLA and Steam.
I want to buy a PS3 for certain console exclusives, but just lol at all this bullshit. How console gaming has become this inconvenient is beyond me.

I've always advocated the use of a high security, very low limit credit card for ALL online purchases. I've got a Visa with a $200 limit that's exclusively used for PSN and other various online uses. I avoid the hassle of having to buy pre-loaded PSN cards, but present minimal risk to my funds and personal credit if something should go wrong.
I highly recommend this to anyone with an online purchasing habit. Any purchases too large for the card will obviously be made with your main, higher-limit card - preferably one like Discover with cash-back rewards - from a very trusted retailer.

This post makes me glad I waited a couple years before getting an HD console. Having 250 gigabytes of storagey goodness makes life much easier.

Also, I think PS+ aids in it too. If there's anything that hasn't been installed, they will be when my PS3 turns on to download any patches and whatnot.
The thing is, I'm pretty sure a bunch of PS3 users have no idea you could even do that. Heck, I didn't even know about that until a year or so ago, and I've had a PS3 since launch.

I was going to buy this on psn, but after the updating/installing of R3, it put me off buying it on the ps3, and I bought it on the 360. For me, choosing between my consoles is like choosing a mob of villagers over a man with a bag on his head weilding a chainsaw. I wish this was on pc.

You forgot the part I have jim! The part where you install and it says "your download it corrupted try again"..... I SPENT 4 weeks trying to download mass effect 2! Not because of slow Internet either! I think that's far worse then what you had to deal with. Xbox live I never had that problem so it's just a psn thing.
Also sorry if I come off as a bit angry Jim. The attack certainly isn't at you, I just..... psn has given me my share of problems.

Wow bad internet or your connection with ps3 sucks. Quite a hate rampage you been on over installs on ps3 lately its not the end of the world losing 4 minutes installing RE4. longest install was DMC4 was 30 mins just went and browsed internet instead of sucking my thumb and crying it too long

Really, what is with this site and increasingly-trolly ArsTechnica to restate an obvious annoyance that everyone is aware of for the last 5 years and start trolling.

"Traditional" home, Jim? RE4 came out on Gamecube first, and I find that the 360 controller is closer to that than a PS3 controller.
In the PC you can at least watch porn while installing. And are mods that make the game looks more HDish.

Mine was easier, Jim:
1.) Purchase funds for game
2.) navigate to game on PSN (Oh hey it just pops up on the splash page)
3.) Buy game
4.) select Download game
5.) back out to main XMB
6.) go to left most option and select the "auto shut off and install" thing.
7.) WAIT. Game automatically downloads and installs while I go exercise for a couple of hours.
8.) Come back and game is installed and ready to go.
It sounds like Jim has internet problems and has gotten used to the convenience that Steam has provided. I have the same experience with the XBLA DL titles except for the installation part. But I like the fact that I can PAUSE DOWNLOADS and come back to it later when I want to unlike how the 360 does it. Small tradeoff for big title downloads.
