Resident Evil 4 HD released last week, but I waited until the weekend to download it. Due to various problems I have with Microsoft Points and my silly desire to play Resident Evil games on their "traditional" home, I decided to download the game from the PlayStation Network.
It's been an interesting and unique experience, but a complex one as well. See, there's a very special set of steps one must perform in order to play Resident Evil 4 HD on the PlayStation 3, and first time users might not get it at first.
Fortunately, I've compiled a very easy, step-by-step walkthrough to help you. Check it out!
- Purchase PlayStation Network card to put funds on your PS Store account.
- Navigate to store and locate game.
- Start the download. Watch it take several minutes to go from 0% to 1% and remember that the PS3 hates the Internet.
- Find lots and lots of other things to do while waiting.
- Come back later to find the PlayStation Network had an error and your PS3 now refuses to connect to the Internet without being switched off and switched on.
- Switch off PS3
- Switch on PS3.
- Start the download again from beginning.
- Go to bed, having given up on the idea of playing RE4 that weekend.
- Wake up.
- Highlight the Resident Evil 4 icon in "Downloads" and select "Install."
- Get told there's not enough space on your PS3's HDD.
- Go to your game data folder to remove a bunch of the mandatory installations that littered your PS3's HDD.
- Find the mandatory installation for Resistance 3 and select "Delete."
- Wait for over forty minutes while it deletes.
- Finally!
- Start to install Resident Evil 4 HD.
- Wait for another ten to fifteen minutes while it installs. Pass time by arguing with the usual people who claim it only takes them five minutes to download and install games on their PS3 so they have no idea what you're talking about.
- After installation, write a sarcastic blog post about the past day.
- That'll show 'em!

"Give up and go buy RE4 on PS2 for 5 bucks and put in PS3"
Really sorry to hear it, Jimothy. Hope you enjoy the game anyway.
Such as MGS HD Collection coming to 360 i'll be there day 1.
I'll grab the PS3 version to, but just playing games on a system they were never originally available on makes it feel like a new game to me anyway.
This is the only thing on that list that's ever annoyed me personally. I can't really understand why I have to take that extra step to install something I download. Of COURSE I want to install it. Why else would I download it? Seems like a pointless step.
It makes me want to pet his head and sing this song to him.

You have every reason to be mad. I'm not contradicting your statements. But Jim?
THE HORSE. IS FUCKING. DEAD.
NO THANKS, BRO.
HASTA LEUGO.
On the XMB, go all the way to the left so you're on the Users tab.
Select Turn Off System.
There will be a box that's checked "Turn off after all background downloads are finished." Make sure that's selected.
All your games will download and install themselves before the system powers off. Make sure you have room on your PS3 before hand. I suggest a 500+ GB one just to make sure.
I just condensed your steps from 20 to 10 :D
1a. Redeem prepaid Microsoft Points card purchased at less-than-Microsoft price.
1b. If you're purchasing MSPs via the dashboard or purchasing Games on Demand with real money then you're fucking doing it wrong.
2. Use appropriate amount of points, varies by county because Capcom are dicks.
3. Download.
4. Play.
Internet and consoles*rolleyes*
Either awful and almost non-existent, bad, or expensiv and overloaded with advertisement...
I sincerely hope that these people get their shit together next generation.
Yeah that annoys me too, I think it's set up that way because you can download PSP games onto your PS3 and then transfer them to the PSP. That's how I got all my PSP downloads at first, but now I do it through PC Media Go because that's fastest.
"All your games will download and install themselves before the system powers off."
They will download, but they won't all install. Still won't do anything to the download speed, or connection problems that may prevent the downloads from advancing sometimes, meaning you left your PS3 on all night for a download that didn't finish.
I never understood why some games need an installation while others, well, just run.
I disagree with you about the auto-installation thing. Call me paranoid, but I want to be in total control of where and when something installs to my system. I like that such a step exists. I think Jim not checking to see if his HDD had enough space before he tried to install kind of highlights that.
are you reviewing it? if not, why bother buying RE4HD when you could have just picked up the PC version for pennies which of course has been in "HD" for years?
