How to animate River City Ransom: Underground

10:00 PM on 09.29.2013

During last week's live questions session on Podtoid, a bunch of you asked me to do a tutorial on how to make sprite artwork. What a bad idea! I'm flattered that people thought Constructoid and Runner looked OK, but if you want to learn right, you should learn from the professionals.

This how-to video on River City Ransom: Underground is a much better showcase, especially if you plan on sticking to more well-known art tools like Photoshop. That said, this kind art isn't easy to make, no matter of how "retro" it may look and no matter what tools you use. It's how you put each creative decision together with the last, making them work as a cohesive whole, that makes the difference between successful artists and those floundering in the shadows (like myself).

Review: The Powerpuff Girls: Defenders of Townsville

Fifteen years ago, The Powerpuff Girls was my jam. I used to watch it (along with Dexter's Laboratory) just about every day after coming home from school, but before firing up a videogame. A couple weeks ago, when The Po...more

Senran Kagura Burst box art was almost even sexier

Marvelous AQL didn't shy away from titillation with apparent porn game Senran Kagura Burst's European box art. The initial plan was even more blatant. The original box art design, prototyped above, was a slip cover. The outer...more

Fight Club as a 16-bit beat-em-up game
